Ashland school destroyed by fire
Ashland Middle School, which was undergoing renovation, was
reduced to rubble
after an early Thursday morning blazed destroyed the school, which had
been used since
the 1920s. School officials scrambled to provide accommodations for the
190 students.

CADET celebrates 10th
Among those celebrating the 10th birthday of CADET Child Care
Center on May 7
were Sr. Ramona Ann Schmitdknecht, the first director; St. Mary Monica
Bell, present
director; Levoria Caldwell, an original staff member; David Beckley,
interim provost of
Rust College; Sr. Sheila Kloss, principal of CADET School, and Landry
Hearn, the first
teacher, who continues now as a teacher.
50 Years Ago - May 14, 1959
French Woods chosen All-American Father
French Woods of Byhalia has been chosen Marshall County
All-American Father of
the Year by the Mississippi Cow Belles Association. Mr. Woods is the
father of five girls;
two of them are 4-H members with dairy and dairy foods for their
projects.
