April 16, 2009
It always rekindles my love for journalism when I’m around enthusiastic high school students.
I spent much of the day April 2 as a guest of the Mississippi Scholastic Press Association Convention, thanks to an invitation for the second straight year from director Beth Fitts.
Close to Nowhere
I have decided that I watch way too much television — especially DIY and HGTV.
There are almost no quilting shows on TV so I watch the Food Network, which is not dangerous; and the home improvement shows, which are extremely hazardous!
Wasn’t too bad for a while. I painted cabinets and put a new counter and sink in my bathroom — one of those “new” vessel sinks with a waterfall faucet. It’s wonderful! And it wasn’t really hard.
The Preacher’s Corner
Easter memories and coconut cake
I am looking at an old photo of my cousin and me standing on the front porch one sunny Easter morning with our grandmother, all dressed up and ready for church. The day was already far along, for as six and eight-year-olds we had awakened almost as early for the Easter bunny as we had for Santa Claus a few months before. By this time we were old enough to dye our own eggs, and had made a grand mess in the breakfast room doing that the day before.
The perfect storm
The sudden calls to regulate banks should be taken with a grain of salt.
Let’s remember now, the cause of this crisis was a sudden, dramatic drop in home prices, the likes of which we have never seen. For 100 years, home prices never dropped. Who would have expected them to drop 30 percent in 18 months?
Letter To The Editor
We received this from the Lieutenant Governor of Mississippi regarding Tommy Dickerson and would like to share it with everyone.
