Jones named player of year by Journal
The honors keep rolling in for H.W. Byers’ Rachel Jones.
She was featured in Sunday’s Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal newspaper as the girls basketball player of the year.
Jones, a senior point guard, has led the Lady Lions to back-to-back Class 2A state championships.
She averaged 17.9 points, 5.9 rebounds, 7.2 assists, 4.6 steals and 1.4 blocks per game in the 2008-09 season.
Joining Jones on the first team, as announced by The Daily Journal, was Potts Camp junior Kenyotta Jenkins. She averaged 20 points, 10 rebounds, three steals and two blocks per game this past season.
Included on the all-area second team was another H.W. Byers Lady Lion, senior Amanda Jones. She averaged 19.6 points, five rebounds, 3.4 assists and eight steals per game during the 2008-09 season.
