Police arrest several suspects By SUE WATSON Staff Writer The
Holly Springs Police Department made two arrests last week on burglary
charges, two on rape charges and one on molestation charges, according
to police chief Robert Pearson. Full Story
Byhalia police officers respond to 54 calls The Byhalia Police Department was busy last week, responding to 54 calls. Chief
Gary Looney released the following report – alarm calls, 7; motor
vehicle accidents, 2; burglaries, 3; disturbances, 4; shooting, 1;
vehicle theft, 1; escort, 1; assists, 3; medical assists, 11; fires, 3;
miscellaneous calls, 18. Officers with the Byhalia Police Department also made three arrests during the past week.
Balfour returns from deployment Marine Corps
Cpl. Javian D. Balfour, son of John Balfour of Hickory Flat, along with
more than 2, 200 Marines and sailors of the 26th Marine Expeditionary
Unit (MEU), Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, N.C., returned from a
seven-month deployment to the Navy’s 5th and 6th Fleets’ area of
operations in support of Maritime Security Operations and the Global
War on Terror aboard ships of the USS Iwo Jima Amphibious Ready Group
(ARG), Norfolk, Va. While deployed, the MEU
supported regional security and stability operations in Iraq and the
Horn of Africa as well as conducted theater security cooperation
exercises with regional allies and impromptu counter-piracy operations
off the coast of Somalia. The MEUs CH-53E Super Stallion helicopters
were detached for six months to support Marine Aircraft Group 16, Al
Asad, Iraq. The U.S. Secretary of the Navy, the
U.S. Ambassador to Spain, the Spanish Minister of Defense, former
Marine and actor R. Lee Ermey as well as officers from countries
throughout the 5th and 6th Fleet visited the Iwo Jima and the MEU to
foster moral and continued international cooperation. Balfour is a 2003 graduate of Hickory Flat High School of Hickory Flat and joined the Marine Corps in October 2003.

James H. Crouch III, a recent graduate of Officer Candidate School,
U.S. Naval Command, Newport, RI, was selected as a Battalion Lt. for
Graduate Class 10-09 and is currently stationed at U.S. Navy Supply
Corps School, Athens, Ga. Officer Crouch was a 2002 graduate of
Collierville High School and a 2006 graduate of Middle Tennessee State
University with a major in aviation administration. Officer Crouch is
married to Casey M. Crouch. Ens. Crouch is the son of Bettye S.
Crouch of Collierville, Tenn., and James H. Crouch Jr. of Fayette
County, Tenn. Officer Crouch is the grandson of Richard P. and
Marge C. Simmons of the Barton community and James H. Crouch of

Accident causes one fatality By SUE WATSON Staff Writer One
driver has died and another driver was injured April 1 following a
collision at Highway 302 and Highway 309 in the Barton community,

communication tower that will serve the City of Holly Springs and
Marshall County. The tower was put up behind the new Holly Springs
police station on J.M. Ash Drive which should open next month. |
