OpinionFielder’s Choice No vacation, but fun week This year’s spring break was different than those in recent years. No trip to the beach. No trip to spring training or Disney World. No trip anywhere, really. Close to Nowhere No kitchen, no floors; but I still have Solitaire Tuesday afternoon I called home to ask my son, the computer whiz, to check my computer and his sister’s computer for that new “worm” that was supposed to hit PCs with a vengeange on April 1. (I’m writing this on Tuesday afternoon — I really, really hope it’s an April Fool spam...) Anyway — back to my phone call — I asked Kris to check the computers and he said he would as soon as he could, but he couldn’t right then — seems like Pop and Pop’s friend Chris have torn my floors up. The Preacher’s Corner Martha would have made a casserole This morning, for some reason, I woke up remembering how, when I was a teen-ager and had my appendix out, our neighbor in Cleveland, Rebecca Austin, appeared at the back door with a wonderful rib-eye steak, to be cooked specially for me, when I felt well enough to eat it. Why do I remember this wonderful lady and her act of kindness after so many years? It was a painful moment and her thoughtfulness eased the way. Wyatt’s World Everybody happy – a perfect vacation OK, I admit I’ve been a bad citizen. Instead of running up my credit card and going skiing for spring break, my family and I stayed home, had a blast and paid down a big chunk of Visa debt. Other than the tremendous guilt I felt for helping to contribute to the global recession, it was perhaps the most pleasant spring break we’ve had in a while. Watching the Visa balance decline was the icing on the cake.
