| Lady Cardinals begin 3-3 on softball diamond The Potts Camp Lady Cardinals fast-pitch team hosted its first game of the season February 19 against the East Union Urchins. The Lady Cardinals started off slow and just couldn’t seem to get it started for the night. Kayla Yarbrough was the pitcher for the Lady Cardinals and Macy Watkins was the catcher. Scoring in the game for the Lady Cardinals were – J. Houston, 2; K. Yarbrough, 3; A. Gandy, 1; M. Watkins, 1. and M. Watkins 1. The final score was East Union 10 and Potts Camp 8. In their next game, the Lady Cardinals traveled to Olive Branch. Due to the rainy weather the game was called in the third inning. Yarbrough was the pitcher for the Lady Cardinals, and Jasmine Houston was the catcher. Scoring the lone run for the Lady Cards was K. Yarbrough. The final score was Olive Branch 5 and Potts Camp 1. The Lady Cardinals traveled to Blue Mountain February 23. The Cardinals got the game off to a fast start. After the third inning the game was called. Kayla Yarbrough pitched two innings with Alaken McNeer finishing up in the last inning. J. Houston was the catcher. Scoring for the night included – M. Watkins, 4; J. Houston, 4; K. Yarbrough, 3; A. Gandy, 2; A. McNeer, 3; S. Davis, 2; S. Haney, 2; B. Cheatwood, 3; and K. Williams: 3. Potts Camp beat Blue Mountain 26-0. The Lady Cardinals traveled to East Union February 26. The Potts Camp girls couldn’t get their bats going until the top of the sixth inning. The Lady Cardinals scored three runs bringing the game within one run of a tie. It was too late for a win. The Lady Urchins came back and scored nine runs in the last inning. Yarbrough pitched five innings and McNeer pitched the last inning. Houston was the catcher. Scorers for the Lady Cardinals were – M. Watkins, 1; J. Houston, 1; and K. Yarbrough, 1. The final score was East Union 13 and Potts Camp 3. On March 2, the Potts Camp Lady Cardinals hosted a game against Blue Mountain. Once again the Cardinals got a jump start against Blue Mountain. The game went five innings with Yarbrough pitching for the Cardinals and Houston catching. Scoring for the night included – M. Watkins, 3; J. Houston, 3; A. Gandy, 2; A. McNeer, 1; S. Davis, 1. Potts Camp won 10-0. The Lady Cardinals hosted Strayhorn on March 7. The weather was great and many fans came out to support the Lady Cardinals. The Potts Camp girls were ready for the Mustangs. The Lady Cardinals came out wanting the win, this being a division game. Yarbrough was the pitcher for the Cardinals, recording 14 strikeouts. Houston was the catcher. Scoring for the Cardinals were – M. Watkins, 2; J. Houston, 2; K. Yarbrough, 2; and A. Gandy, 2. The final score was Potts Camp 8 and Strayhorn 2. |
