Museuming Lois Swanee Shipp Museum Curator Needs for the move back We will be moving back into the original museum this month after five and a half years at the Square Museum. Our
needs are many. In good condition we need: old tools, clothes, shoes,
costumes, jewelry, Christmas decorations, documents, antique furniture,
men’s clothing, documents such as wills, deeds, marriage licenses,
etc. We need your old costume jewelry to sell in the museum shop. We
need your vintage clothing. Everything has to be in good condition as
we don’t have time for repair, and in some cases, we don’t have the
expertise. Do you happen to have a “zoot” suit or a Nehru jacket? We
urgently need your grandpa’s and grandma’s old spinning tops, yo-yo’s,
teddy bears, and dolls. We could use old tools. I never thought tools
were pretty until I got them on the walls and realized each tool is
used for a different function and now they are beautiful to me. If
you have old, local photographs, please think of us as we need them.
Quilts need to be shown off as works of art and we need a big spinning
wheel. We need lots of things and the main
thing we need is money. Let us be your tax deduction, like you do your
church, or let us be your tax-deductible charity. Moving
is expensive. We need money for a new stair carpet, picture frames,
window shades for 38 windows, and supplies for setting up the new
building and there are some workers who need to be paid. Our
needs are great at the museum but the main ingredient in creating and
maintaining a museum is friends. Without friends to support us, we
can’t function. Membership to the museum is $25 a person, or $30 for a
couple. We need friends. We’ll be moving soon. If
you are willing to help us out, please contact us at 662 252-3669 or
come to see us at 111 Van Dorn Avenue, Holly Springs, 38635.
