| Forty-one qualify for municipal elections By BARRY BURLESON Editor The candidate lists are set for this year’s municipal elections. Qualifying deadline was Friday. The county’s largest city has the most candidates (19) who submitted qualifying papers. Four candidates are running for mayor of Holly Springs – Andre’ DeBerry, Lawrence Riddle, Patricia Selman and Barry Thomas. Ward 1 alderman candidates are Russell Johnson, Betty Yates and Mae Gill. Ward 2 alderman candidates are Naylond Hayes and Calvin James. Ward 3 alderman candidates are Garrie Colhoun and Chris Stephenson. Ward 4 alderman candidates are Harvey Payne, Christy Owens, Robert Badie Sr. and Hoyt Johnson. Alderman at-large candidates are Tim Liddy, Cathy Elliott-Brittenum, Johnnie Bagley and Henry Boyd. At Potts Camp, 12 candidates are seeking five alderman seats, and there are three candidates for mayor. Running
for alderman in Potts Camp are Joan Cox, Carol Jean Davis, Mary
Houston, Wanda Love, Herbert Luther, Deborah McCullough, Dolleen
Porter, Sabrina Porter, Lela Stevens, Robert Swinford, James (Johnny)
Westmoreland and Craig Work. Potts Camp mayoral candidates are Ricky Lesure, Casey Mayer and David Taylor. In Byhalia, Phil Malone will run unopposed as mayor. Six
candidates will be in the running for five alderman spots in Byhalia –
Daylon Cannon, Ronny Blackburn, Mike Hamblin, Richard Minor, Joe
Tunstall and Rick DeBardeleben. The primary election (Holly Springs only) will be held Tuesday, May 5, with a runoff date of Tuesday, May 19. Municipal general election (Byhalia and Potts Camp) is slated for Tuesday, June 2. The new four-year term for city elected officials will begin Monday, July 6.
