Sitting in the hospital with family members is not fun, but at the same time it can often lead to lots of reminiscing and laughs.
I’m writing this Sunday morning, while staying with my mother, a patient at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. She had surgery on Friday.
She’s improving, and hopefully will get to go home on Monday (of this week).
Close to Nowhere
Girls, makeup and bathrooms
• My niece from Heber Springs paid an unexpected, but very welcome, visit this weekend.
Sister (her real name is Dawn, I can’t call her that though -- she’s always been “Sister”) and Emily arrived about 11 p.m. or so Friday night. Emily is two weeks younger than her cousin Meredith and Mere, who is a foot shorter, never lets her forget it!
The Preacher’s Corner
Preaching is a lot like fixing dinner
People often ask ministers how they decide what to preach. Some might envision that we follow a grand design of themes and texts. Others may guess that we darkly ponder the sins of our congregations, carefully crafting “zingers” to hurl at people on Sunday mornings. At least in my case, those assessments give too much credit either to the existence of grand designs or my ability to scrutinize the sins of my flock.
Letters to the Editor
Response to letter:
This letter is to respond to the letter someone named J.R. Dunworth wrote. I don’t live there so I don’t know who that person is, but I would like to ask him this question.
Does J.R. Dunworth live in Holly Springs or does he or she just work there and drive back to another community?
