Fugitive arrested following chase, crash at Potts Camp
A Potts Camp resident was arrested following a reckless driving incident in the town and later determined by sheriff's deputies to be a fugitive wanted on charges in Illinois, according to sheriff Kenny Dickerson.
In the early evening hours of February 26, Potts Camp police officers attempted to stop the grey Ford Crown Victoria being driven by Eddie Stewart, 34, of Potts Camp, the sheriff said.
“After a short vehicle pursuit, the Crown Victoria crashed into the yard of a private property and Stewart fled on foot to his residence at 105 Pontotoc,” Dickerson said.
Deputies with the sheriff’s department arrived to assist and allowed Stewart time to surrender. SWAT teams then entered the residence and made the arrest on reckless driving charges, Dickerson said.
A further background check showed Stewart was also wanted in Aurora, Ill., on charges of aggravated battery, burglary and home invasion, Dickerson said.
