| Deadline Friday for municipal candidates By BARRY BURLESON Editor The deadline for candidates to qualify for municipal elections is Friday. Each candidate must be a qualified voter and resident of the city or ward for which he or she is seeking office. Those
who had turned in their “Qualifying Statement of Intent” at Byhalia
Town Hall as of Monday morning were Phil Malone, candiate for mayor;
and Daylon Cannon, Ronny Blackburn, Mike Hamblin, Richard Minor and Joe
Tunstall, all candidates for alderman. Holly
Springs candidates, as of Monday morning, include – for mayor, Andre’
DeBerry, Lawrence Riddle, Patricia Selman and Barry Thomas; for Ward 1
alderman, Russell Johnson and Betty Yates; for Ward 2 alderman, Naylond
Hayes and Calvin James; for Ward 3 alderman, Garrie Colhoun; for Ward 4
alderman, Harvey Payne, Christy Owens and Robert Badie Sr.; and for
alderman at large, Tim Liddy and Cathy Elliott-Brittenum. Several
have also signed up in Potts Camp to seek political office. They are –
for mayor, Ricky Lesure, Casey Mayer and David Taylor; for alderman,
Carol Jean Davis, Mary Houston, Wanda Love, Herbert Luther, Deborah
McCullough, Dolleen Porter, Sabrina Porter, Lela Stevens, Robert
Swinford and James (Johnny) Westmoreland. The primary election will be held Tuesday, May 5, with a runoff date of Tuesday, May 19. Municipal general election is slated for Tuesday, June 2. The new four-year term for city elected officials will begin Monday, July 6. City of Holly Springs voters will choose a mayor, an alderman at-large, and aldermen for Wards 1, 2, 3 and 4. Voters in the towns of Byhalia and Potts Camp will pick a mayor and five aldermen at-large. For
