ObituariesMary Elizabeth Bynum Mary Elizabeth Bynum, 54, of Potts Camp, died Dec. 27, 2008 at Baptist East Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. She was secretary for the University of Mississippi School of Education Services were held at 3 p.m. on Dec. 30 at Salem Baptist Church, where she was a member. Dr. David Skinner, Dr. Ed Gregory and Rev. Randy Bynum officiated. Burial was in Salem Cemetery. United Funeral Service of New Albany was in charge of arrangements. She leaves her husband, Rev. Randy Bynum; a daughter, Amy Elizabeth Hartley of Henderson, N.C.; a son, Randle Bonds Bynum Jr. of Potts Camp; a grandson, William Oneal Hartley III of Henderson, N.C.; and three brothers, Allen Gregroy of Myrtle, Dr. Ed Gregory of Anchorage, Alaska, and George Gregory of Saltillo. Bobby Lewis Byrd Bobby Lewis Byrd, 65, formerly of Lamar, died Dec. 22, 2008 at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. Services were held at 1 p.m. on Dec. 26 at Ashland Baptist Church. Holly Springs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. He leaves his mother, Mamie (Polly) Byrd; two children, Trina Thompson, Jennifer Shoup; three brothers, Allen Byrd, Lorance Byrd, both of Lamar, Larry Byrd of Ripley; two sisters, Connie Skelton, Sarah Hicks, both of Ashland; and four grandchildren. Grant T. Malone Grant T. Malone, 65, of Kansas City, Mo., formerly of Coldwater, died Dec. 20, 2008 in Kansas City. He was an auto mechanic. Services were held at 1 p.m. on Dec. 28 at Thyatira Family Life Center in Senatobia. Burial was in Chulahoma Cemetery in Holly Springs. Rodgers Funeral Home, Coldwater, was in charge of arrangements. He leaves a daughter, Tiffany Malone of Kansas City, Mo.; three sons, Grant Malone Jr., of California, Patrick Malone, Quinton Malone, both of Kansas City, Mo.; his mother, Eva Malone of Holly Springs; seven sisters, Armelia Moore of St. Louis, Mo., Arlillian Moore of Pasadena, Calif., Joyce Jamison of Coldwater, Patricia Boyd of Coldwater, Clydia Phillips of Memphis, Tenn., Jean Malone of Oxford, Debra Wallace of Olive Branch; and three brothers, Jamison Malone Jr. of Holly Springs, Rodger Malone of Los Angeles, Calif., Almons Malone of Olive Branch, and 10 grandchildren. Coleta Quay McLeod Coleta Quay McLeod, 59, died Dec. 21, 2008. Services were held at 11 p.m. on Dec. 24 at at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Memphis Memory Gardens. She leaves her husband, John McLeod; son, Bill Cherry; daughter, Tina Barnes; brothers, Mike Copeland and Rocky Copeland; sisters, Anita Fry, Eudora Mays; and three grandchildren. She was preceded in death by sisters Jeanette Copeland and Teresa Jones. The family requests memorials be sent to The Kings Sons & Daughters home in Bartlett, TN. A.C. Poplar A.C. Poplar, 81, of Michigan City, died Dec. 23, 2008 in Tippah County Hospital in Ripley. Services were held at 12 noon on Dec. 27 at Hardaway MB Church in Michigan City. Burial was in Mitchell Cemetery. Serenity Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Rev. Terry Poplar officiated. He leaves his wife, Betty Valentine Poplar; 17 children, Lenora Watkins, Dorothy Spencer, both of Memphis, Tenn., Sallie Rivers of Detroit, Mich., Thelma Wilkes of Whiteville, Tenn., Mary Jarrett, Elvira Haddix, both of Grand Junction, Tenn., Brenda Jarrett of Bolivar, Tenn., Jo Ann Buggs, Maxine Poplar, Rita Poplar, all of Michigan City, A.C. Poplar Jr. of Dayton, Ohio, T.C. Poplar of Corinth, Willie Poplar, Barry Poplar, J.C. Poplar, Tony Poplar, all of Michigan City; stepchildren, Betty Hardaway and Darlene Haraday of Hickory Valley, Tenn., Shirley Woods of Whiteville, Tenn., David Valentine of Bolivar, Tenn.; a sister, Ethelean Hamer of Michigan City; 50 grandchildren, 60 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, 12 stepgrandchildren, one step-great-grandchild, and one stepgreat-great-grandchild. He was preceeded in death by a daughter, Mary Bowden. |
