The Burlesons packed a lot of Christmas into a few days.
It began Christmas Eve.
Several years back we started a tradition of each of us opening one gift on the night before Christmas.

I hereby resolve...
• As a person without any hint of willpower whatsoever, about the only New Year’s resolution I can keep is one I share with Milton Winter — not to make resolutions.
Several (many) years ago, we printed photos of folks and their New Year’s resolutions. Milton was the only one I asked who didn’t make a resolution — he said something to the effect about not keeping them, so why make them. But don’t quote me on that, as memory is not my strong suit.

We are the sum of our typos and Freudian slips
Misprints in the newspaper can be humorous, and I enjoy collecting them. I trust that as long as type is set by humans there will always be mistakes to make us smile. Recently I saw an obituary that told how the deceased had climbed the ladder of success “wrong by wrong.” Then there was a new diet that was declared “the triumph of mind over platter.” And sixty is when actions begin to “creak louder than words.” I surely made a Freudian slip when, looking for volunteers to help with our day camp for children from our church’s downtown Chicago neighborhood, I wrote, “Your Assistance is Needed for the Summer Day Problem!”
Letters to the Editor
Special birthday party:
I would like to thank everyone for all you did to make Granny Hollingsworth’s birthday special.
I know that Granny has not had a very easy life nor have many special things bee done for her. She was so excited about the reception and getting to see everyone. I think that she was surprised that the newspaper would do something so special for her.
Please take time to remember our local “heroes” who are serving in war zones around the world.
