| Activities association unveils new regions By BARRY BURLESON The Mississippi High School Activities Association has announced its new regions as part of realignment for 2009-11. The H.W. Byers-Potts Camp intracounty rivalry will once again be a district one, too. The two Marshall County schools will be a part of Class 1A, Region 2. Byers is dropping from 2A to 1A in the realignment. Other members of Class 1A, Region 2, in basketball will be Blue Mountain, Ingomar, Myrtle and West Union. “We’re very pleased, from a travel standpoint,” said Brian Smith, head coach of the Potts Camp boys. “Our 1A district will be tough, but we have a good group of young boys coming up.” The other two Marshall County high schools will no longer be district rivals. Byhalia is going up to Class 4A, while Holly Springs will remain in 3A. Joining the Indians in Class 4A, Region 2 (football and basketball) will be Center Hill, Lafayette, Lewisburg, North Panola, Rosa Fort and Senatobia. Joining the Hawks in Class 3A, Region 3 (football and basketball) will be Charleston, East Side, Independence, Marks Palmer and Ruleville Central. Benton County schools Hickory Flat and Ashland will be members of Class 2A, Region 1 in basketball. Others in that new district are Baldwyn, East Union, Mantachie, New Site and Walnut. The Mississippi High School Activities Association will feature six classifications in new format instead of five. Individual school classifications are based on enrollment in grades 9-12.
