Potts Camp teams knock off Lewisburg By BARRY BURLESON Editor It was a good way to end the regular season Friday night for Potts Camp basketball teams. The Lady Cardinals downed Lewisburg by 28 points at home and the Cardinals followed with a 13-point win. Jasmine
Harmon poured in 24 points, including four threes, in the 72-44
victory. Kenyotta Jenkins and Samantha Nance added 20 and 12,
respectively. Potts Camp was up 18-5 after one quarter and 37-15 at the half. “It
was senior night, plus it was good to get a win going into the division
tournament,” said coach Tana Miller, whose team improved to 13-13 on
the season. Three Cardinals scored 21 points each
as they turned back Lewisburg 79-66. Leading the offensive attack were
Chris Sims, Lavonte Richmond and JaVaughn Jones. Sims also grabbed 10
rebounds. “It was good to get the monkey off our
back,” said coach Brian Smith, whose young team had suffered through a
string of losses. “Of course, we haven’t been playing any slouches. We
lost to Lewisburg by five at their place.” Potts Camp built a 38-24 halftime lead. “The
big thing is we changed our defense up some,” Smith said. “We started
man-to-man and played well. We switched to a 1-2-2 press and looked
good. We shot the ball well.” The Cardinals improved to 11-16. Schedule Potts
Camp teams are hosting the Region 3-1A Tournament this week. For the
schedule, see page 2 of the sports section. The Lady Cardinals are
