Potts Camp drops district games By BARRY BURLESON Editor It was a rugged road week for Potts Camp basketball teams. The
Lady Cardinals and Cardinals lost divison games at Myrtle and
Coldwater. The Potts Camp girls wrapped up regular season district play
at 3-3 and the boys 2-4. Potts Camp vs. Myrtle The Lady Cardinals, playing without standout player Kenyotta Jenkins, fell 60-50 to Myrtle on Tuesday night, Jan. 29. Coach Tana Miller said Jenkins was battling sickness. “We
wanted that game,” she said. “It could have locked up number two in the
division. We had some bright spots; some folks really stepped up.” Samantha Nance tossed in 18 points in the loss. Jasmine Harmon added 10. Potts Camp trailed 29-26 at the half. There’s a three-way tie for third place in the district between the Lady Cardinals, West Union and Myrtle. The Potts Camp boys fell 102-60 to top-ranked Myrtle. They fell behind 29-18 after one quarter and got outscored 33-11 in the second period. Scoring in double digits for the Cardinals were Chris Sims with 20 points and Lavonte Richmond with 10. Potts Camp vs. Coldwater The top-ranked, unbeaten Coldwater girls raced to a 24-7 first-quarter advantage and coasted by Potts Camp 74-41 Friday night. “They’re an excellent team – very quick,” Coach Miller said. “We knew it would be a tough week, and everybody was battling sickness, too.” The Lady Cardinals (12-12 overall) were led by Jenkins with 15 points, Harmon with 10 and Shanekqua Johnson with eight. The Coldwater girls, defending state champs in Class 2A, moved down to 1A and into Potts Camp’s district this year. It was a tough night in Coldwater for the Potts Camp boys, too. They lost 109-50. The Cardinals (10-15 overall) trailed 55-22 at the halftime break. Top scorers for coach Brian Smith’s team were Sims with 20 and Richmond with 12. Schedule Potts
Camp teams were scheduled to visit Marshall County rival Holly Springs
Tuesday night. They wrap up the regular season Friday evening with home
games versus Lewisburg. The Region 3-1A Tournament is February 11-15 at Potts Camp. The brackets were to be completed after press-time this week.
