School’s out for
Christmas, and at one of the most-traveled intersections in the city,
that means digging up part of the street.
Last
week workers with U.S. Construction of Arlington, Tenn., started
installation of a new 12-inch water line, part of the Holly Springs
Commons economic development project. They began at the intersection of
West Boundary Street and West Chulahoma Avenue, part of a busy
thoroughfare in the city which also leads to Marshall Academy.

Dog
rules prompt gripes
By SUE WATSON

Now that Marshall County has an
officially adopted dog ordinance, zoning director Conway Moore said
complaints are coming in.
“Supervisors are getting
a lot of calls, too,” she said, especially in some districts.
Sheriff Kenny Dickerson, whose office
is responsible for writing citations for dangerous dogs on the loose,
told supervisors two weeks ago that his dog catcher gets lots of calls
from those who say their neighbor has a vicious dog, only to find when
he arrives that the dog is not creating a danger.

City scopes problem sewer lines
By SUE WATSON

They work day and night with cameras below ground locating problem spots in the city’s aging sewer system.
SunCo
Construction of Jackson specializes in filming underground sewer mains,
a modern technology that allows utilities to find and repair problems
in old sewer lines without having to dig up the street. When possible,
a flexible sewer slip is inserted in the old line, blown up and
chemically treated to conform the new plastic liner to the inner
dimension of the old line. Where the old clay pipes have collapsed,
workers will have to dig up the street to remove debris.
The general contractor for the project is Delta Construction of Jackson.
Don
Hollingsworth, public works director for the City of Holly Springs,
said the work being done now is part of the Chatham Heights sewer
project that covers a described portion of the city's sewer system that
has been in need of clearing out. After the work is completed on this
project, residents in the affected area will no longer be dealing with
backed up or slow drains.
“We are taking care of the critical areas at it relates to the Chatham Heights project,” Hollingsworth said.
