| Holly Springs sweeps North Panola on road By BARRY BURLESON Editor Holly Springs basketball teams picked up a pair of in-district road wins December 16 at North Panola. The Lady Hawks downed the Lady Cougars 60-51 and the Hawks survived a stronger challenge, winning 55-54. JaShanta Walker was on fire for the Holly High girls. She lit up the scoreboard with 26 points. Others in double figures were Katia Isom with 13 and Tamekico Johnson with 12. The Lady Hawks outscored the Lady Cougars in three of the four quarters, including a 13-5 run to open the game. Three Holly High boys hit for double digits as they edged the Cougars by one. Timothy Oliver’s 18-point performance led the attack. Tavarus Hardy and Shermaine Jones added 11 and 10, respectively. The Hawks trailed 30-27 at the half, outscored the home team 19-11 in the third quarter, and then held on for the victory. The Hawks and Lady Hawks also swept district foe Independence on December 12. Walker’s 23-point night led the girls to the 53-41 win. Isom contributed 11. The Lady Hawks built a comfortable 26-13 halftime advantage. The Holly High boys used a strong third quarter to knock off the Wildcats 61-50. Coach Naylond Hayes’ Hawks led 31-30 at the half and then went on a big 20-10 run in the third period. Oliver was the top gun with 13 points. Darius Dowdy and Hardy followed with 11 each.
