December 25, 2008
One of the great joys of the Christmas season is the giving. It’s so much better than the receiving.
Saturday morning, I saw it in action, and the smiles were plentiful, along with some tears, too.
The volunteers with the Clydesdale Christmas Store, one of the best examples anywhere of the true spirit of giving, made the holidays brighter for many children who might not otherwise receive anything at this special time of year.

Happy 90th Mrs. Dale
Wednesday, December 16, Dale Hollingsworth of Potts Camp celebrated her 90th birthday.
At 90, Dale is still writing the Potts Camp News for The South Reporter — just like she’s done for the past 26 years.
Holly Springs Chamber of Commerce reports successful 2008
On behalf of the Holly Springs Chamber of Commerce, I would like to take this opportunity to thank our members for a successful year in 2008. It has certainly been an exciting year of changes and growth for us that would not have been possible without you.
Speed backs optimism with array of logic
Jacksonian Leland Speed is, like me, a hopeless optimist. No doubt, geneticists will one day find a gene for this trait.
Where would we be without optimism? No doubt, the species would have long since passed into oblivion without us, for doom and gloom aren’t what keep us going. To the contrary, it is the concept that the future will be better that motivates.
Letter to the Editor
Helping during holidays:
Marshall County Correctional Facility has been working hard to help others even with this bad economy. I thought I would share some of the things we have been doing with the hope you might consider doing an article on us. As a prison we really could use all of the positive publicity we can get.
