By SUE WATSON A couple living near Potts Camp was arrested last week on drug charges and their two children placed in custody of the Department of Human Services, according to Sheriff Kenny Dickerson.
Robert Campbell appointed new fire chief at Potts Camp Volunteer FD Robert Campbell is the new fire chief at the Potts Camp Fire Department. He was appointed January 1. He replaces outgoing chief J.C. Pruitt. Campbell has been with the all-volunteer fire department for eight years and is the son of Bro. Bobby and Connie Campbell of Red Banks, MS.
City works to restaff departments By SUE WATSON Two full-time and four part-time positions were filled in the Holly Springs Fire Department last week. And the city is advertising to fill vacant positions in the Street and Building and Grounds departments. Police nab burglary suspect Holly Springs police officers arrested Boyce Waller, 36, of Holly Springs, on burglary charges on January 20, said chief Robert Pearson. Byhalia police respond to 35 calls The Byhalia Police Department responded to 35 calls during the past week. Chief Gary Looney released the following report – five alarm calls, one motor vehicle accident, one shooting, 10 escorts, two animal-related calls, one juvenile-related call, seven assists, two fires and six miscellaneous calls. Byhalia police officers also made seven arrests on the following charges:
Hardhats hosting tryouts this week The Mississippi Hardhats will hold open player tryouts on Friday and Saturday, Febuary 1, 2, from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. at the Rust College gym in Holly Springs. The Hardhats’ open player tryouts provide desiring players the opportunity to earn a spot with the Mississippi Hardhats for the upcoming 2008 basketball season. Correction In the article “Christmas Not Forgotten” that ran in section one, page 16, of last week’s issue of The South Reporter, there was an error. “Elves” with the Division of Economic Assistance of Marshall County Department of Human Services helped distribute gifts for the family in the story. Chief “elves” Anita Gentry, Mary Ann Warren, Suzanne Lafever and Elizabeth Kriss have helped families with Christmas needs for the last four years. The Division of Economic Assistance served over 160 families during the 2007 Christmas season. |
