‘Cost of Freedom’ arrives this week

‘Cost of Freedom’ arrives this week

Holly Springs and Marshall County welcome the American Veterans Traveling Tribute “Cost of Freedom” exhibit this week.

The various memorials, which pay honor to all servicemen and women, will be on display 24 hours a day on the courtsquare. The entire exhibit is free of charge, but donations are accepted.

The Holly Springs Chamber of Commerce and the Collins-Hurdle VFW Post #5697 are hosting the tribute.

A tentative schedule of activities follows:

Tuesday, November 25

11:30 a.m. – wall escort parade from VFW entrance to the square.
12 noon – opening ceremony, Dr. Russell Mauk, emcee; invocation, Danny Tate, VFW chaplain; proclamation, Andre’ DeBerry, Mayor, City of Holly Springs; National Anthem, Mitch Stone; speaker, Roy Ray, colonel, retired U.S. Army; speaker, Mike Chaney, Mississippi state insurance commissioner; benediction.
12:30 p.m. – wall set-up, ROTC and Marshall County Boy Scouts; sack lunches provided by Sonic.
2 p.m. – luncheon for honored guests, Collins-Hurdle VFW Post #5697.
6 p.m. – God Bless America, Annie Moffitt; Taps.

Wednesday, November 26

11:30 a.m. – mid-day ceremony, Calvin E. James, 1st Sgt. U.S. Army (Ret.), MC, invocation; National Anthem, Stephanie Movre; posting of colors, Holly Springs ROTC; laying of wreaths, Donna Bagwell; speaker, William M. Hollowell, LTC, U.S. Army (Ret.); speaker, General Mitch Brown, director Joint Force Headquarters, Mississippi National Guard; 21-gun salute and Taps; fly-by; retrieval of colors, benediction, James Brown.

Thursday, November 27

5 p.m. – Thanksgiving Day ceremony; invocation, Tim Liddy, alderman, City of Holly Springs; musical entertainment by Heritage Apostolic Church; musical entertainment by Mitch Stone; speaker, Bill Stone, state senator.
6 p.m. – candlelight vigil, Patricia Cantrell, vocational deacon, Church of the Incarnation.

Friday, November 28

12 noon – Youth Day, Amy S. Heaton, executive director, Holly Springs Chamber of Commerce, emcee; program and music presented by students from Holly Springs area schools; speaker, Mike Drewery, teacher at Marshall Academy; Proud to be an American, Erica and Adrienne Heaton.

Saturday, November 29

12 noon – “Bike Day” – keynote speaker, Jack Gadd, state representative; music by Carol Jean Taylor.

Sunday, November 30

12 noon, closing ceremony, Ralph Doxey.
