News BriefsChristmas parade Dec. 6; deadline to enter Nov. 28 Two highlights of the Christmas season in Holly Springs are the annual Christmas Parade and the Holiday Lighting Contest. In keeping with tradition, the Holly Springs Chamber of Commerce will host the 19th annual Christmas Parade on December 6, and judge the lighting contest on December 19. Application forms for both are available at the chamber office, 104 E. Gholson, or call 662-252-29433. They must be returned by November 28. Early deadlines in place due to Thanksgiving holiday The South Reporter announces early deadlines for the next edition due to the Thanksgiving holiday. Deadline for all classified advertising is this Friday, Nov. 21, at 12 noon. The newspaper office in Holly Springs will be closed Thursday, Nov. 27, for Thanksgiving, and reopen Friday, Nov. 28, at 8 a.m. Byhalia United Methodist providing free meal Nov. 22 Byhalia United Methodist Church hopes to help alleviate the stress of life on the streets or in low income housing by providing a free Thanksgiving meal on November 22 from 3 p.m.-5 p.m. According to Dr. Jim Biedenharn, the church pastor, “Anyone who comes to our doors is welcome – without question or qualification. What everyone forgets is that we are all alike. You never know what may happen to you. We just want to bring people a little food and dignity. Government offices announce holiday closing schedules Marshall County offices along with its municipalities (Potts Camp, Holly Springs and Byhalia) announce holiday closings. County and city government offices will be closed Thursday and Friday, Nov. 27-28, for Thanksgiving holidays; Thursday and Friday, Dec. 25-26, for Christmas holidays; and Thursday and Friday, Jan. 1-2, 2009, for New Year’s holidays. |
