OpinionFielder’s Choice Our teams Another high school football season for Marshall County teams is in the books. This newspaper takes pride in covering the Byhalia Indians, the Holly Springs Hawks and the Marshall Academy Patriots. They’re our teams. In a few years, we will add two more at the varsity level - H.W. Byers and Potts Camp. Close to Nowhere Climbing onto my soapbox! Tuesday was Veteran’s Day -- I hope we all remembered our veterans; not just the ones in the cemeteries -- the ones who are still with us need to be thanked in person. My late father-in-law was a member of the VFW in Memphis, Tenn. (Frayser Post). He was very proud to be a veteran and worked diligently at the post. I enjoyed many a spaghetti dinner at that post. The Preacher’s Corner Getting church addresses not easy Last week Greg Goodwiller, our presbytery executive, gave me the task of compiling a list of the physical addresses of all our North Mississippi churches. You would think somebody had done this long ago, but many of the churches get their mail at a post office box, and for a long time many country churches were on rural roads that did not have names. The purpose of this project was to post the addresses on our website, so that visitors can find their way. Letters to the Editor Pride and exuberance!: As one who was born in Holly Springs exactly a month after the assassination of President Kennedy, a few months after the assassination of Medgar Evers, a few months after the bombing of the church in Birmingham (in which four precious little girls were murdered), a few months before the brutal killings of Schwerner, Goodman, and Chaney in Philadelphia, and as the great-grandson of slaves, I cannot adequately express the pride and exuberance that I feel after America elected her first African American president.
