| 27th annual White Oak Festival set for Saturday The
27th annual White Oak Festival, hosted by Byhalia Sports Association
and the Byhalia Lion’s Club, will take place on Saturday, October 11
from 10 a.m. until … with crafts, displays, food, games, a baby photo
contest, activities for kids and adults, raffles, live entertainment,
and many prizes. Entertainment includes Rebel
Souls Band, Byhalia Pompom Squads, local singers, The Memphis Road
Dawgs featuring Dr. Bill Hudson, formerly with Sam the Sham and the
Pharaohs, Chuck Berry and Bo Diddly’s bass player, and Chuck Mangione’s
drummer. The sponsors of the festival encourage
everyone to attend the festival at the new location at the corner of
Edwards Road and Lowry Drive off Highway 178 near the Industrial Park. Admission
is free with a $2 per car parking fee on the grounds. A limited supply
of White Oak Festival T-shirts will be available for sale at the
festival. You can order yours in advance by calling one of the numbers
listed below or purchase one at the festival. Booths
are on a first come, first serve basis and cannot be reserved without
payment. To ensure you have a space for your booth, please call
immediately as spaces are filling up quickly. Concession spaces are
already filled. Applications for other booth spaces ($30) are available
from Janice at 838-2806 or Darla at 838-5200 or at the Byhalia Area
Chamber of Commerce office Monday through Thursday. Baby photo contest: Would
you like a chance to show off a favorite photo of your little one?
There is no entry fee; however, the following rules apply: any size
photo, color or black and white, can be submitted up to 8x10 in size,
framed or unframed, the child must be 2-years-old or younger when photo
was taken. Judging will be done by most the money raised the day of the
festival as attendees “vote” for their favorite picture by placing
money in designated containers. A prize will be awarded for the winning

year’s White Oak Festival will again feature a “Kiss a Pig” contest.
Five candidates from the Byhalia area have agreed to participate.
Participants in the “Kiss a Pig” are Police Chief Gary Looney, Byhalia
Middle School’s Kerry Reid, Locks by Lisa owner Lisa Taylor, Justice
Court Clerk Mae Garrison, and Byhalia Area Chamber of Commerce
president Bill Kinkade. Piggy banks have been placed at various
locations. Donations can also be made until 3 p.m. the day of the
festival. The contestant whose piggy bank contains the least money at 3
p.m. the day of the festival has agreed to “Kiss a Pig.” Stop
by one of the above locations and cast your vote by making a
contribution in any amount to one or more of the banks. Then be sure
and attend the festival on October 11 (rain date October 18) to cheer
