• MA beats big schools for overall championship

The Marshall Academy Lady Patriots traveled to Mississippi College in Clinton last week to compete in the Mississippi Private School Association Overall Championship Tournament. This tournament is for the top two teams in each of the three classes – A, AA, and AAA. Not since 1971 has Marshall Academy had an overall crown. This would be yet another first for the Lady Patriots softball program.

Youth signup underway

The Holly Springs Parks and Recreation Department is holding registration for youth basketball for boys and girls ages 4-14.

Registration is available at city hall Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., plus a special registration will be held on Saturday, Oct. 11, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Eddie L. Smith Multi-Purpose Building. The last day to register is Tuesday, Oct. 28. There is a $20 registration fee.

Cardinals in Tupelo meet

The Potts Camp cross country team had a meet in Tupelo on Saturday, Sept. 27. Pictured above are the team members as they took off at the starting line – Jessie Shaw, Devin Holmes, Chad Randolph, Justin Mitchell, Matt Swinford and Austin McNatt. Chad Randolph came in 10th place. Coach Karen Green said she is proud of all of the team members and encourages them to keep up the good work.

Indians fall 20-19 to Wildcats

The Independence Wildcats brought their full team and band into Indian territory last Friday to do battle with Byhalia on homecoming night.

The Wildcats, recovering from a last-minute loss to the Holly High Hawks the previous week, didn’t find the going any smoother in Byhalia. Their first play was fumbled but luckily reclaimed by their quarterback.
