Police investigate shooting
Holly Springs police are investigating the shooting of a man Wednesday, Sept. 24.
Officers responding to what was believed to be a careless driving call around 10:45 p.m. found James Campbell of Holly Springs had been shot in the back, according to chief Robert Pearson.
Campbell was on the back seat of the vehicle when it stopped at Alliance Healthcare System on Highway 4 East, he said. Campbell, 29, was airlifted to The MED in Memphis and was believed to be in good condition Monday, Pearson said.
Holly Springs police are investigating the shooting and encourage anyone with information relative to the shooting to call the police department at 662-252-2122.
Pearson said all tips provided to police on any crime are kept extremely confidential.
One arrest was made the week ending September 29.
Pearson said Melvin J. Jones, 26, of Holly Springs, was arrested Friday, Sept. 26, on charges of possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute and possession of contraband in a correctional facility.
Other activities reported for the week included: driving while license suspended (1); no driver's license/expired license (2); no proof of insurance (4); seatbelt violation (2); child restraint (1); expired tag/no tag (3); switched tag (2); disregard for traffic device (3); careless driving (1); driving under the influence (2); trespassing (1); domestic violence/simple assault (3); and violation of city ordinance prohibiting loud music (1).
Week of September 22
The Holly Springs Police Department made one arrest for the week ending September 22.
Chief Robert Pearson said Vickie Martin, 29, of the Byhalia area, was arrested Tuesday, Sept. 16, on charges of credit card fraud.
Officers responded to these other activities during that week: driving while license suspended (10), no proof of insurance (5), no driver's license/expired license (6), seatbelt violation (1), child restraint (1), expired tag (1), expired tag (2), disregard for traffic device (1), domestic violence/simple assault (1), possession of paraphernalia (1), violation of city dog ordinance (2), and school speeding zone violation (10).
