OpinionFielder’s Choice Game notes • Championships can often be traced to strong senior leadership. Such is the case with the Marshall Academy fast-pitch softball team, which celebrated back-to-back state titles Saturday afternoon in Ridgeland (near Jackson) at Freedom Ridge Park. Seniors Lauren Alexander, Traci Rodgers and Heather Tomlinson had perhaps the biggest smiles among all the Lady Patriots. Close to Nowhere God turned my head! Coming home from work last Monday I met a girl who, in a strange way, has changed my outlook on the “Good Samaritan.” Keisha isn’t actually a “girl” — she’s probably about my daughter’s age, mid-to-late 30s. For a brief 15 minutes or so, all my maternal instincts were in full bloom and the mother hen in me is still worrying about her. The Preacher’s Corner Grandparents often play a wonderful role Grandparents have a special ministry in church. I am reminded of this frequently, for there is seldom a Sunday when there are not grandparents and grandchildren together in our congregation. Ours is an “intergenerational” church family. Children are not segregated from their families at the worship hour, and I even encourage our older youth to visit the adult class which I lead. Writer’s Cramp How many catalog ‘hoo-hahs’ annoy you? You probably get various catalogs touting many different “useful” products. You look at them and think about it and wonder if whatever it is really works, as it says. I’m about to tell you about some I’m convinced do not work! They are the hoo-hahs. Tourism professionals gather in Georgia Stephanie Movre I’ve just returned from Dahlonega, Ga., where I completed the second portion of a three-year professional development program that will lead to certification as a Tourism Marketing Professional (TMP). Letters to the Editor Response to letter:
