Annie West Smiley Boone
Annie West Smiley Boone, 93, of Holly
Springs, died Sept. 19, 2008 at Alliance HealthCare System in Holly
Springs. She was the widow of William Elliot Boone Sr. She was born in
Clarksdale. She was a graduate of Mississippi Synodical College in
Holly Springs (now a part of Belhaven College. She was active in the
First Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school and Bible study
for many years. A resident of Christopher’s for the past
three years, she continued as a faithful member of a Sunday school
class held there and was the oldest member of the First Baptist Church.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on Sept.
22 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Hill Crest
Cemetery. Dr. Curtis Ferrell officiated.
She leaves a son, William Elliott Boone
Jr. and wife Kathy of Holly Springs; a brother-in-law, Aubrey Boone and
wife Patsy of Winona; nephews Joseph Smiley Jr. and wife Nelda of
Oklahoma City, Ok., John Boone and wife Nancy of Holly Springs, Alan
Boone and wife Cindy of Winona; great-nephews Joey Boone of Nashville,
Tenn., Gant Boone of Winona; and a great-niece, Libby Boone of Holly
Springs.
Pallbearers were Kenney Rose, Kenneth
Edwards, Kenneth Tomlinson, Ronnie Strickland, Dr. Joe Johnson, Dale
Jackson, Donald Pogue and Dr. David Childers.
She was preceded in death by two
brothers, Joseph Smiley Sr. and Nathaniel Smiley; brother-in-law, Joe
Boone; and sister-in-law, Gertrude McAlexander.
Memorials may be made to the
Boone-McAlexander Memorial Fund at First Baptist Church in Holly
Springs.
Alberta Culver
Alberta Culver, 84, of Waterford, died
Sept. 22, 2008 at the home of her daughter in Walnut. She was a member
of Holly Hill Baptist Church.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on Sept.
24 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Mt. Moriah
Cemetery in the Laws Hill community.
She leaves a son, Herman Culver Jr. of
Potts Camp; three daughters, Lurline Kimery of Ashland, Noveline Rhea
of Walnut, Betty Bing of Waterford; three sisters, Era King, Juanita
McWhorter, both of Houston, Tx., Margaret Gooding of Olive Branch; 15
grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were her grandchildren.
Martha Jo Dawson
Martha Jo Dawson, 80, of Victoria, died
Sept. 17, 2008 at her home.
A memorial service was held at 3 p.m.
on Sept. 21 at Brantley Funeral Home in Olive Branch.
She leaves three daughters, Margaret
Drumwright of Olive Branch, Janet Wilkerson of Nesbit, Mary Jo
Kirkpatrick, both of Southaven; a son, Harry Keys of Victoria; a
sister, Jane Warren of Ecru; eight grandchildren and five
great-grandchildren.
Memorial gifts may be made to the
charity of the donor’s choice.
Wyomia Malone
Wyomia Malone, 55, of Holly Springs,
died Sept. 14, 2008 at her home.
Services were held at 1 p.m. on Sept.
20 at Serenity Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Greenfield Church
Cemetery in Waterford.
She leaves four children, Marritha
Marie Malone of Indianapolis, Ind., Anthony Malone, Jeval Malone, both
of Holly Springs, Elgin Malone of Fort Wayne, Ind.; her mother, Millie
Mae Booth Malone of Cordova, Tenn.; three brothers, Odie Malone of
Holly Springs, Kent Lee Malone of Fort Wayne, Ind., Will C. Malone of
Madison, Ind.; three sisters, Catherine Coleman of Memphis, Tenn.,
Dannie Lee Johnson of Fort Wayne, Ind., Osie Russell-Jones of Cordova,
Tenn.; and six grandchildren.
Juanita Beatrice Mitchell
Juanita Beatrice Mitchell, 86, of
Ashland, died Sept. 21, 2008 at Alliance HealthCare System. She was the
widow of James D. Mitchell Jr., a member of Ashland Baptist and a
bookkeeper with Hearne Lumber.
Services will be held at a later date
in Hearne, Tx.
She leaves a son, James D. Mitchell III
of Lamar; and a daughter, Patricia Ann Hamilton of Bryan, Tx.
Evelyn Swain Munns
Evelyn Swain Munns, 74, of Potts Camp,
died Sept. 18, 2008 at Baptist Hospital in Oxford. She was a member of
Cornersville Baptist Church and retired from Kellogg.
Services were held at 10 a.m. on Sept.
20 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Bro. Joe Epting officiated.
Burial was in Cornersville Cemetery.
She leaves her husband, William L.
Munns; three sons, David Munns of Memphis, Tenn., Ralph Munns of
Bartlett, Tenn., William A. Munns of Counce, Tenn.; two brothers, Jerry
Swain of New Albany, Gary Swain of Cornersville; two grandchildren and
1 great-grandchild.
Elizabeth S. Williams
Elizabeth S. Williams, 97, of Potts
Camp, died September 21, 2008. She was the widow of Russell McConnell
Williams.
Graveside services will be held at 2
p.m. on Sept. 25 at Potts Camp Cemetery. Memphis Funeral Home is in
charge of arrangements.
She leaves four children, Connie Surles
Williams of Memphis, Katherine Noce Corwin of Minneapolis, Minn., and
Potts Camp, Chris Massengill of Germantown, Tenn., Russell Harley
(Scooter) Williams of Virginia; four grandchildren; 13 great-grandsons;
a very special “daughter” Kay Barclay Hull of
Lewisville, Tx.; treasured life-long friends, Henry and Mary Jarrett of
Potts Camp and “our” Jennie E. Porter of Chicago,
Ill.
She was preceded in death by a sister,
Katherine and her dearest friend Bess Wainwright Barclay.
In lieu of flowers, “Miss
Elizabeth” requested memorials be made to St. Jude
Children’s Hospital in Memphis, Tenn.
