Byhalia
alderman election goes to Sept. 30 runoff
The
special election in Byhalia to select a new alderman is going to a
runoff.
The
top two vote-getters in the September 16 election were Joe Tunstall
with 81 votes and Frederick “Rick” DeBardeleben
with 47 votes.
The
two will face off next Tuesday, Sept. 30, in the runoff. Voting hours
will be from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at one voting precinct, Byhalia Town
Hall, located at 161 Highway 309 South.
Totals
for the other three candidates in the September 16 election were
– Daylon Cannon, 23; Thomas Reagh, 15; Ray Woods, 14.
The
Byhalia mayor and board of aldermen recently declared the vacancy on
the board due to the death of Terry Sawyer.
The
winner next Tuesday, Sept. 30, between Tunstall and DeBardeleben will
fill the remainder of Sawyer’s term, which expires June 30,
2009.
Annual
Kudzu Festival set for Oct. 22-25 downtown
The
Holly Springs Chamber of Commerce will host the annual Kudzu Festival
in downtown Holly Springs – October 22-25.
It
will include a carnival, crafts, barbecue, 5K run, entertainment and
more.
PBJ
Happee Day Shows will provide rides, carnival games with prizes and
everyone’s favorite carnival foods.
Local
crafts people are invited and encouraged to show off their talents,
along with arts and crafts vendors from several other states. For those
who enjoy cooking, there will be a Kansas City Barbecue sanctioned
competition.
Athletes
can participate in the 5K run on Saturday morning, sponsored by
American Pacific/Design the Space.
The
Holly Springs Chamber of Commerce and the VFW are raffling a motor
scooter with proceeds helping to bring the Veterans Memorial Wall to
Holly Springs in November.
Tickets,
$20 each, are
available from chamber board members or any VFW member. Only 500 will
be sold. The lucky winner will be drawn at 10 p.m. on Saturday at the
Kudzu Festival.
A
wide array of entertainment will be featured.

White
Oak Festival slated for October 11 in Byhalia
Mark
your calendars to join the Byhalia Sports Association and Byhalia Lions
Club for the 27th annual White Oak Festival Saturday, Oct. 11.
The
event, from 10 a.m. until, will include arts and crafts, food booths,
contests, games, displays, motorcycle show, activities for children,
raffles, entertainment, many prizes and the “Kiss a Pig
Contest.”
