Area
students return to school in next few weeks
It’s
almost back-to-school time for area school children.
Students
in the Marshall County School District and those attending Holy Family
School will be the first to return to school – on Wednesday,
Aug. 6.
Other school starting dates are Thursday, Aug. 7, Holly Springs
schools; Thursday, Aug. 14, Marshall Academy; Monday, Aug. 25,
Friendship Christian Academy.

Mary
Reid school hosting ‘Meet and Greet’ Monday
Mary
Reid Elementary School in Potts Camp is having “Meet and
Greet” night at 6 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 4.
Students
and parents will have an opportunity to meet the faculty and see all
the improvements made to the building. Every classroom now has central
air conditioning and heating along with lower ceilings and brighter
lighting.
Students
may bring supplies that night to leave in their classroom.
“We
are excited about the new school year and we look forward to seeing you
August 4,” said Pat Kennedy, new principal at Mary Reid.
Annual
hummingbird event Sept. 5-7 at Strawberry
Mark
your calendars for the ninth annual Hummingbird Migration Celebration.
The
event is set for Friday-Sunday, Sept. 5-7 at the Strawberry Plains
Audubon Center, 285 Plains Road, Holly Springs. It’s located
just off
Highway 311. The September celebration features the spectacular fall
migration of the ruby-throated hummingbird. Thousands of the tiny birds
are drawn to the center’s forests, gardens and feeders.
There
will be fun for all ages – wildlife demos and nature trade
show,
hummingbird banding and release, nature programs and guided walks.

Marshall
County IDA narrows search for director
A
two-month search for an executive director for Marshall County
Industrial Development Authority may be ending soon.
Interim
executive director Del Stover said 13 people applied for the position
and four people have been interviewed.
IDA
meets August 7, when the search committee could bring a recommendation
before the IDA board of directors, Stover said.
The
position has been open since June 30 after Bill Renick resigned to
assume a job with Three Rivers Planning and Development District on
July 1.
