Lack of rainfall means
burn ban possible in county
Conditions are getting right for
grass fires, according to Hugh
Hollowell, emergency management director for Marshall County.
He advised the board of
supervisors Monday that a burn ban may
be needed if no general rains fall over the county during this
weekend’s forecast for some rain.
The board approved a burn ban,
pending the recommendation and
approval for a ban in the county by the Mississippi Forestry Commission.
Heat is becoming a problem for
firefighters working in this
intense heat and the cost to fight fires has escalated, Hollowell said.
He recommended a burn ban on both
accounts if conditions do
not improve.
