Fielder’s Choice By Barry Burleson Good work I’ve had lunch at a lot of places, but never a prison. That
changed Thursday when I was finally able to attend an annual community
relations meeting at the Marshall County Correctional Facility. Full Story
Close to Nowhere By Linda Jones Deuteronomy It’s
very quiet at my house this week. Kinda scary compared to last week,
when part of the week I had 12+ people for the weekend and then five
girls for the rest of the week (I’ve promised not to call them “little”
girls anymore). Full Story
The Preacher’s Corner By Rev. Dr. Milton Winter Contrary to advertising, Montreat is hot in the summer This
is the time of year when children go off to church camp. Most years
several of mine do, and in spite of whatever homesickness may well up
at the time, they usually remember the experience positively in their
latter days. Yet, while other people get all spiritual thinking about
their church camp grounds, I think about “Aunt Lottie’s truck.” Therein
lies the tale that I am going to tell. Full Story
Wicker demands action on gas price legislation before August adjournment By U.S. Senator Roger F. Wicker The
Senate is scheduled to spend this week debating energy legislation, but
it is uncertain whether votes will be allowed on measures to permit
increased production of American energy. With record-high gas prices
hurting Americans across the country, it would be a mistake for the
Senate to not take this opportunity to pass legislation that increases
domestic energy production. Full Story
Letter To The Editor Pray for our nation: (Editor’s
Note: Lois Swaney of Holly Springs sent the following letter to our
representatives in Washington, D.C., and also asked that it be printed
in her local newspaper.) Dear Senator Cochran, I am a
Christian lady doing the work of the Lord. I had a private interview
with the president when he came to Mississippi. I asked the Lord what
my message to him should be and He said, “Tell President Bush in his
last remaining months of office to put God back in the schools and
reinstate the Ten Commandments as they are the foundation of America
and without them, America will topple.” Prayer of Intercession To put God back in the schools and reinstate the Ten Commandments Across
America there is a growing concern about the spiritual health of our
nation. Our moral standards have deteriorated grossly in the last few
years. Important principles in America today are being neglected and
forgotten. Our nation was founded on the Ten Commandments that blessed
the founding of our nation and kept us strong for 232 years. Reverent
prayer is our only hope. We need to align our desires with God’s
will and call out to the Lord to please help our country for ourselves;
but mainly for the sake of our precious children and their future. God
does answer fervent prayers and we are blessed. When we pray, our
communities are influenced and our country is blessed. The
Christians have a hotline to God in heaven and He is always available.
It’s like a miracle, but then He works in miraculous ways. II
Chronicles 7:14 says, “If My people called by My Name shall humble
themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways,
then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sins, and will heal
their land.” Then, and only then will we experience the matchless
benefit of God’s forgiving, healing power, individually and corporately. As
we pray, it is crucial that we give attention to those who are lost and
do not know Jesus as Savior and Lord. The mission of those who know
Christ is communicate to the lost that Jesus alone is the Way, the
Truth, and the Life. By life, by message, and by influence believers
are to communicate the Good News and by faithful prayer, we plead for
salvation for those who need God’s redemptive touch. The reason
we are in this plight today is because we wrongfully took God out of
the schools in the 1960s; consequently, countless thousands of children
have never heard of Him and don’t know of Him and His wonderful
blessings. Now, God needs to be put back in the schools so we can be
great as a country again. We need to pray also for the president, the
vice-president, our country, communities and churches and have prayers
of thanksgiving for all our blessings. Also, we need to pray for each
other and ourselves. Pray that America will respond to our prayers and
have a spiritual awakening across the nation that Americans of all
ages, races, and backgrounds will be drawn to Christ and receive His
life to salvation. Based on: “Praying for America” from Spire Resources, Comarillo, California Sincerely Lois Swaney Holly Springs
