Potts Camp teams rout StrayhornBy BARRY BURLESON
To say Potts Camp teams eased to wins Friday night at Strayhorn would be a big understatement.
The Lady Cardinals won by 52 points and the Cardinals by 33. Both improved to 2-0 in district play.
It was the Potts Camp girls’ first game since the holiday break. They rolled 67-15.
“It was good to get back on the court,” said coach Tana Miller. “Everybody played and everybody contributed.”
Scoring in double figures were Jasmine Harmon with 14 points and Kenyotta Jenkins and Queen Dean with 10 each.
The Lady Cardinals, who improved to 11-8 overall, led 30-9 at halftime.
Coach Brian Smith’s Cardinals got 23 points and 17 rebounds from big man Chris Sims in a 75-42 win.
Others pitched in, too. Jeremy Siggers scored 13, Lavonte Richmond 11 and Javaughn Jones 10.
“Lavonte helped a lot inside, too, when they doubled Chris,” Coach Smith said. “It’s been a while since four have scored in double figures.”
Potts Camp, which improved to 10-10 overall, darted to an early 7-0 lead and was up 18-7 after one quarter. They led 38-21 at intermission.
“We played well,” Smith said. “Now we’ve got a big game Friday night.”
That will be a road trip to district foe Ashland.
Scheduled home games last week versus Byhalia were rescheduled due to bad weather. They will be played Thursday, Jan. 31.
The Cardinals and Lady Cardinals host Hickory Flat next Tuesday, Jan. 22.
