R.L. (Lud) Carpenter, 88, of Mt. Pleasant, died Jan. 10, 2008 at his home. He was the widower of Nadine Bogard Carpenter, a Christian and was employed in well drilling.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on Jan. 12 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.
He leaves a son, Larry Carpenter of Mt. Pleasant; a daughter, Jo Anne Lewis of Senatobia; a sister, Lois Hargrove of West Point; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Jerry Hunsucker, Sanford Hunsucker, Billy Palmer, Mike Hurdle, Josh Russell and Luke Loftin. Honorary pallbearers were Alfred Loftin, Roy Ray, Alan (Skeet) Hurdle, William Harold Lewis, Joe Lundine and Ivy Wayne Teel.
Freda Mae Engstrom
Freda Mae Engstrom, 47, of Holly Springs, died Jan. 9, 2008 at her home.
Memorial services were held at 11 a.m. on Jan. 13 at Grace Baptist Church, where she was a member.
She leaves her husband, Gregory Engstrom; two sons, Gregory Engstrom Jr. of Byhalia, Dylan Engstrom of Holly Springs; four daughters, Dawn M. Engstrom of Virginia, Sabrina Engstrom of North Carolina, Christina Brumback of Virginia, Serena Moore of Holly Springs; her mother, Wanda Ellis of Olive Branch; a sister, Wanda Beckelman of Olive Branch and four grandchildren.
Barbara A. Hunt
Barbara A. Hunt, 71, of Ashland, died Jan. 8, 2008 at her home. She was the widow of Hubert Howard Hunt and a Baptist.
A memorial service will be held at a later time. Holly Springs Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements.
She leaves her son, Rick Hunt of Ashland; two brothers, Robert Miller of Horn Lake, Donald Miller of Abilene, Tx. and two grandchildren.
David Ray McMahan
David Ray McMahan, 29, of Byhalia, died Jan. 10, 2008 at Regional Medical Center in Memphis, Tenn. He was a construction worker.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on Jan. 14 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Antioch Cemetery in Ripley.
He leaves a son, Devin McMahan of Memphis, Tenn.; his mother, Dorothy Carter of Byhalia; four brothers, Jackie McMahan, Jimmy McMahan, Gary Damin Haning, all of Byhalia, Joe Carter of Memphis; five sisters, Demeatrice Carter of Memphis, Danielle Carter of Byhalia, Josette Carter of Memphis, Stacey Carter of Byhalia, Angel Carter of Byhalia; his grandmother, Kathy Smith of Byhalia and his great-grandmother, Ethel Jumper of Byhalia.
Conley Trevis Peyton
Conley Trevis Peyton, 78, of Potts Camp, died Jan. 5, 2008 at his home. He was a retired laborer with Singers in Rockford, Ill.
Services were held at 11 am. on Jan. 12 at Reid’s Gift MB Church in Potts Camp. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Bessie Tables officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
He leaves three daughters, Cynthia Peyton, Velma Louise Willis, both of Rockford, Ill., Gladys Field of Natchez; five sons, Conley Peyton Jr. of New Hampshire, Alton Eugene Peyton of Natchez, Vernie Lee Peyton of Horn Lake, Gary Peyton, Corey Peyton, both of Rockford, Ill.; three sisters, Odessa Thompson Walker, Naomi Lester, both of Potts Camp, Mary Vance of Texas; three brothers, Charles Peyton of Washington, Victor Peyton of Potts Camp, Bernard Peyton of Los Angeles, Calif.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Mark Peyton and Bennie Peyton.
Pallbearers were James H. Beard, Chris Buford, William H. Collins, Lantonio Henderson, Nicholas Henderson, Emit Nickson and Chris Tables. Honorary pallbearers were Conley T. Peyton, Vernie L. Peyton, Alton E. Peyton, Charles A. Peyton, Victor S. Peyton, Gene D. Peyton and Bernard M. Peyton.
Travis T. Reaves
Travis T. Reaves, newborn, died Jan. 13, 2008 at Baptist Union Hospital in New Albany.
Graveside services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Jan. 19 at Greenwood M.B. Cemetery in Ashland. Serenity Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
He leaves his parents, LaQuire Scruggs and Travis Reaves and grandparents, Helen and Frank Reaves and Mae Frances Scruggs.
Allie Pearl Waldrip
Allie Pearl Waldrip, 80, of Byhalia, died Jan. 9, 2008 at Baptist DeSoto Hospital in Southaven.
Services were held at 1 p.m. on Jan. 12 at Pate-Jones Funeral Home Chapel in Senatobia. Burial was in Glenville Cemetery in Como.
She leaves four daughters, Wanda Childress of Hernando, Nanette Awad of Olive Branch, Earlene Leverette of Booneville, Mary Lou Martin of Pearl; and two sons, Terry Waldrip and Timothy Waldrip, both of Byhalia; 19 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
Earlean Houston Wilkins
Earlean Houston Wilkins, 75, of Holly Springs, died Jan. 2, 2008 at her home. She was an usher, a member of the choir and a member of the Mother’s board.
Services were held at 1 p.m. on Jan. 10 at Chulahoma MB Church, where she was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. John E. Booker officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
She leaves her husband, Earnest Wilkins; a daughter, Barbara Stanback of Memphis, Tenn.; seven sons, Earnest Wilkins Jr. of Victoria, Willie Earl Wilkins, Sylvester Wilkins, Lorenzo Wilkins, Curtis Wilkins, Percell Wilkins, all of Holly Springs, Michael Wilkins of Southaven; three sisters, Ann Kizer, Essie Wells, Mary Odum, all of Red Banks; 22 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Alonzo Wilkins; and two sisters, Vera Shaw, Frances Wells.
Pallbearers were Eric Cox, Corey Wilkins, Jeremy Wilkins, Laforenzo Wilkins, Ryan Wilkins, Preston Wilkins, Latredrick Wilkins and Nicholas Wilkins. Honorary pallbearers were Earnest Wilkins Jr., Lorenzo Wilkins, Percell Wilkins, Willie Earl Wilkins, Curtis Wilkins, Calvin Shaw, Sylvester Wilkins, Michael Wilkins and Elvis Stanback.
Fred Lee Williams
Fred Lee (Snookum) Williams, 57, of Moscow, Tenn., formerly of Slayden, died Jan. 7, 2008 at Baptist Hospital in Collierville, Tenn. He was a church deacon and a disabled supervisor with Ring Can Company in Oakland, Tenn.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on Jan. 12 at Concord MB Church in Slayden, where he was a member. Burial was in Old New Zion CME Cemetery in Moscow, Tenn. Rev. Clyde Williams officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
He leaves his wife, Roberta Spinks Williams; a daughter, LaTonya Williams of Moscow, Tenn.; two sons, Brandon Williams, Exavier Williams, both of Moscow, Tenn.; and a sister, Lucille Taylor of Memphis, Tenn.
Pallbearers were Tony Holliday, Tovaris Cheairs, Eddie Payne, Calvin Taylor, Gerald Taylor and Houston Taylor.
