Letter To The Editor Vandals in Holly Springs: Dear Editor: I
am sorry to report that someone decided to celebrate the end of 2007 by
breaking windows. Ten irreplaceable panes of 164-year-old glass were
broken when bricks were thrown at the front of my house. I offer
a reward of $500 to the first person who provides the Holly Springs
police force with information leading to the arrest and conviction of
the person or persons who did this. Very truly yours. J.R. Dunworth
Report from the MS Senate By Senator Bill Stone The
Mississippi Senate started its session by electing Sen. Billy Hewes of
Gulfport as president pro-tempore. They confirmed Kevin Upchurch as
secretary of the Senate and Jim Madden as assistant secretary of the
Senate. The Senate confirmed John Myers as sergeant at arms of the Senate. In
addition, Lieutenant Governor Phil Bryant was sworn into office during
a joint session in the House of Representatives along with other
elected officials. Senate members considered
legislation that, if adopted, would shorten the session from 125 days
to 104 days, citing the cost savings. Senators also entertained
legislation that would allow senate meetings to be Webcast live across
the Internet. Senators said it would open the governmental process to
citizens. The Senate passed a resolution in honor of the life and service of former Lt. Gov. Evelyn Gandy. In
addition, on Thursday, her last day of presiding over the Senate,
outgoing Lt. Gov. Amy Tuck received a standing ovation from the body.
