Culley Wayne Allen
Culley Wayne Allen, 81, of Sardis, died June 29, 2008 at Sardis Community Nursing Home. He was a retired mechanic.
Memorial services were held at 10 a.m. on July 5 at Blackjack Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Dickins Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
He leaves three daughters, Susan Allen Wright of Sardis, Brenda Allen Habedank of Willmar, Minn., Lisa Allen Sanford of Batesville; two sons, Billy Wayne Allen of Potts Camp, Steve Allen of Senatobia; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Bernie Mae Johnson Whitehead.
Kenneth Lee Black, 76, died July 6, 2008 in Mobile, Ala. He graduated from Holly Springs High School. He was a self-employed contractor and a former walking horse trainer in Tennessee, Pennsylvania and Alabama. He served four years in the U.S. Air Force, stationed primarily in Germany.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Joe-Joe’s Mortuary of Mobile is in charge of arrangements.
He leaves his wife, Katie Jones Black; children Joy Grubbs, Sherry Black, both of Oak Ridge, Tenn., Bart Black of Charlotte, N.C.; stepsons William Jones of Atlanta, Marcus Jones of Alvaton, Ga.; sisters Frances Trinder of Brunswick, Ga., Brenda Johnson of Hollywood, Fla., Joy Banville of Plantation, Fla., Margaret Virginia Black of Boca Raton, Fla. and seven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Black of Arkansas.
Thomas Harlow Jr.
Thomas (Bubba) Harlow Jr., 70, of New Albany, died July 4, 2008 at North MS Medical Center in Tupelo. He was the widower of Joyce Harlow.
Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. on July 9 at Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery in Nettleton. Serenity Funeral Home of New Albany was in charge of arrangements.
He leaves his children, Paul Patterson of Hickory Flat, Lisa Wallace of Baldwyn, Debbie Gray of Nettleton; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceeded in death by a sister, Judy Kent.
Gladys S. Harris
Gladys S. Harris, 60, of Holly Springs, died June 29, 2008 at Baptist Hospital-DeSoto in Southaven. She was a disabled factory worker.
Services were held at 3 p.m. on July 5 at Union Valley MB Church in Byhalia, where she was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Mark Williamson officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
She leaves two daughters, Penny Harris, Beverly Harris, both of Holly Springs; three sons, Steve Harris of Winona, Michael Harris, Jimmy Harris, both of Holly Springs; six sisters, Oralee Houston, Lee Ora Harris, Mae Lucy Harris, Yvonne Jones, Mae Helen Davis, Martina Jones, all of Holly Springs; six brothers, Lawrence Harris, Larry Harris, Henry James Harris, David Harris, Leutenant Davis, Leon Davis, all of Holly Springs; 14 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Beau Harris, Prentis Harris, Willie Folsom, Cedric Houston, Brandon Williams, Jimmy Darrell Harris, LaMarcus Harris, Antione Harris, James Jones and Joseph Ambrose. Honorary pallbearers were Steve Harris, Michael Harris, Jimmy Harris, Andre Harris, Larry Harris, David Harris, LaJohn Curry and JeMarcus White.
Charolette Lorain Hoover
Charolette Lorain Hoover, 49, of Potts Camp, died July 2, 2008 at her home. She was a Baptist.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on July 3 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Pine Grove Cemetery in Hickory Flat.
She leaves a son, Bradley Joseph Pruitt of Potts Camp; her mother, Doris Hoover of Potts Camp; a sister, Patricia Hoover of Potts Camp; two grandchildren; and her fiancé, Danny Floyd
She was preceded in death by her sister, Mary Frances Hoover.
Myra C. Hudson
Myra C. Hudson, 72, of Holly Springs, died June 30, 2008 at Baptist Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. She was a member of First Pentecostal Church.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on July 2 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Bro. Billy Saxon and Bro. Jerry Waldrop officiated. Burial was in McKay Cemetery in Hickory Flat.
She leaves her husband, Lee Hudson; three sons, Terry Hudson of Ashland, Bobby Hudson of Senatobia, Walter Hudson of Coldwater; two daughters, Sharon Bell Pasco, Charlotte Cothern, both of Holly Springs; a brother, L.A. Bain of New Albany; four sisters, Hazel Box of Ashland, Frances White of Ripley, Tenn., Geneva Henderson of Memphis, Tenn., Doris Swinford of Myrtle; 16 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

James Edward (Hardy Bone) McKinney, 62, of Champaign, Ill., formerly of Holly Springs, died June 27, 2008 at Heartland Health Care Center in Champaign. He was a fork lift operator.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on July 5 at Hopewell No. 2 MB Church in Holly Springs. Burial was in Cottrell Memorial Garden. Rev. Tony Wilkins officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
He leaves his wife, Della Porter McKinney of Champaign; three daughters, Beverly McKinney of Champaign, Sharon Ingram of Kentucky, Theresa Frost of Holly Springs; five sons, James McKinney Jr., Tony McKinney, Tracin McKinney, Travon McKinney, all of Champaign, Kelvin McKinney of Jackson; five sisters, Irine Mayfield, Deloice White, Lisa McKinney, Ida McKinney, Ethel Raimey, all of Holly Springs; three brothers, Edgar Lee McKinney of Champaign, Robert McKinney, Michael Perkins, both of Holly Springs; and 24 grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Michael Perkins, Audrey Raimey, Andrejko White, Johnny Beard and George Washington. Honorary pallbearers were Chester B. Holland, Tom Raimey, Edgar McKinney, Stanley White and Robert McKinney.
Sarah Elizabeth Moore Robinson
Sarah Elizabeth Moore Robinson, 91, of Michigan City, died June 26, 2008 at her home. She was the widow of Ira Lane Sr. and Tom Robinson. She was a former church usher, a treasurer of Poor Saints Department and a retired factory worker.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on July 5 at Sims Chapel MB Church in Ashland. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Adam Gholson officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
She leaves a daughter, Katie Irene Groce of Michigan City; and a sister, Jessie Mae Epps of Michigan City.
She was preceded in death by a son, Ira Lane Jr.; a sister, Ora Jenkins Butler; and brothers, Walter Moore Sr., Edmond Moore.
Pallbearers were Clarence McNamee Jr., Herman Williams, Anthony Brison and Winfred Moorehead.
Gracie Mae Smith
Gracie Mae Smith, 73, of Oxford, died July 4, 2008 at Baptist Hospital-North Miss. in Oxford. She was a member of Union Hill MB Church. She was a native of Lafayette County.
Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. on July 9 at Union Hill Cemetery. Rev. Walter Nash officiated. Hodges-Serenity Funeral Home in Oxford was in charge of arrangements.
She leaves her husband, Charlie Smith Jr.; two daughters, Linda Nesbit of Etta, Shelia Lewis of Abbeville; two sons, Roy Owens of Abbeville, Ivan Owens of Potts Camp; three stepdaughters, Betty Smith, Joyce Smith, both of California, Lou Bell Owens of Kentucky; two stepsons, Earl Smith Jr., Sammy Louis Smith, both of Kentucky; three sisters, U.V. Mathis, Jessie Thompson, Alice Pegues, all of Oxford; a brother, Robert Flemmons of Oxford; 18 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, James (Kitty) Owens; and a stepson, Darrell Smith.
Jerry Cornelius Scott
Jerry Cornelius Scott, 68, of Holly Springs, died July 6, 2008 at Baptist Hospital DeSoto in Southaven. He was an electrical inspector with Holly Springs Utility and a U.S. Air Force veteran.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on July 8 at First Baptist Church of Holly Springs, where he was a member. Burial was in Hill Crest Cemetery. Dr. Curtis Ferrell and Bro. Earl Richmond officiated. Holly Springs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
He leaves his wife, Betty Bell Scott; a son, Gregory Jason Scott of Jackson; a daughter, Amanda Michelle Garner of Holly Springs; five grandchildren, Carolyn Trudeau, John Tyler Garner, Stephenie Trudeau, Aeryn Elizabeth Scott, Mackenzie Brooke Garner; and a great-granddaughter, Georgianna Lynn Mott.
Hazel Lois Smith
Hazel Lois Smith, 84, of Hickory Flat, died July 4, 2008 at Alliance HealthCare System in Holly Springs. She was the widow of Claude Lee Smith and a Baptist.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on July 8 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Stone Cemetery in Potts Camp.
She leaves a daughter, Louise Harrison of Sarah; a brother, Bud Johnson of Olive Branch; four sisters, Macie Murray of Arkansas, Eula Mae Underwood of Tyler, Tx., Mildred McCann of Memphis, Tenn., Doris Huckaby of Arkansas; five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Danny Lee Smith; two daughters, Carol Ann Smith and Patsy Jean Smith.
