Batesville district officers issue
1,224 citations
It was a busy holiday weekend for the Batesville
district of the Mississippi Highway Patrol.
Sgt.
Leslie White said 1,224 citations were issued during the July 4
weekend, which started Thursday at 6 p.m. and ended Sunday at midnight.
The
breakdown included 754 hazardous citations and 518 non-hazardous, 37
DUI arrests, eight drug arrests, five felony arrests, 52 seatbelt
citations and 30 child restraint citations.
There were 16 car crashes in the 10-county area,
according to White, with four injuries and no fatalities.
Statewide, the Highway Patrol issued 10,023 citations
during the holiday period.
There were 129 car crashes, with 38 injuries and one
fatality. The death occurred in the Meridian area, White said.
Weekend event promotes legacy of Ida B. Wells
The Ida B. Wells-Barnett Museum is hosting its annual
Ida B. Wells Birthday Celebration and Festival this weekend, July 11-13.
The
theme for this celebration is “Preserving, Protecting,
Promoting the
Ida B. Wells Legacy.” Guest speaker for the banquet on July
12 will be
Michelle Diane Wright, author of “Broken Utterances: A
Selected
Anthology of 19th Century Black Women’s Social
Thought.”
On each day of the celebration, a member of the Wells
family will share the legacy of Ida B. Wells.

County school board announces July 15
meeting
The
Marshall County Board of Education will hold its July board meeting on
Tuesday, July 15, at 3:30 p.m. in the supervisors’ board
room, 103B
North Market Street, Holly Springs.
City schools set meeting concerning
IDEIA funds
Parents
of children with disabilities are invited to participate by providing
input on all sections of the Holly Springs School District fiscal year
2008 applications for Individuals with Disabilities Education
Improvement Act (IDEIA) Part-B and pre-school funds.
The meeting
will be held Monday, July 28, at 2:30 p.m. at the Holly Springs School
District superintendent’s office, located at 840 Highway 178
East in
Holly Springs.
Parents are welcome to review the components of
the application and provide input anytime during the day from 8:30 a.m.
to 3:30 p.m. prior to the meeting.
