A few weeks back coach Devin Rutherford struggled with a decision, whether to stay at Byhalia or leave for White Station.
One of the reasons he had difficulty making up his mind was high school football players like Terrell Richmond.
“He and some other kids were the reason why it took me so long to decide,” said Rutherford, his voice cracking on the other end of the telephone. “This is a tragedy. He was a great kid. He was a joy to be around.”
Terrell Richmond, age 17, was found dead at his home Tuesday of last week. He had been murdered – shot in the back of his head.
Close to Nowhere
My daughter taught me a new word last week — “hypermiling.”
I don’t know why I was surprised that she was practicing “hypermiling,” — especially since she’s also worked hard on not falling victim to road rage (she drives to work in Memphis, hence the need for that practice!).

‘Miss Bess’ ensured well-rounded education
One of the most interesting phases of a little child’s maturation is the discovery of differences between men and women. To define the matter as simply as possible, it is that men have pockets and women have purses.
Thomases share RV adventure across America
By MARTHA THOMAS
(Editor’s Note: Jimmy and Martha Thomas of Holly Springs are traveling across the USA in an RV. Martha has kindly offered to share her “travel diary” with those of us stuck at home.”)
We have been packing the RV for a whole week. Finally, it is Sunday morning – Father’s Day – and we are about to head out for an adventure to states we have yet to visit. We will be heading north through Missouri, on to Iowa, then South Dakota, Montana, and who knows where else.
Please take time to remember our local “heroes” who are serving in war zones around the world.
