The city father also said that the metropolis, commonly known as “Bean Town” would have a rolling parade party for the gallant wearers of the green who brought the 17th championship banner to their town. MA athletes honored By BARRY BURLESON Marshall Academy handed out lots of awards during its athletic banquet in May, including two special honors presented each year. Football camp June 27-28 Mt. Pleasant Lions Youth Football and Cheer Organization will host a football and cheer camp. The location for the camp has been changed from the H.W. Byers Attendance Center to the Cayce Fire Department. It will be held at the Cayce Fire Department on Friday, June 27, from 4:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. and on Saturday, June 28, from 7:30 a.m. until 12 noon. All students, both boys and girls from the ages of 5-18, are encouraged and welcome to participate in this camp. The registration fee is $35 per child and is non-refundable. The requirements include a camp application, registration fee, certified copy of birth certificate, copy of last report card, and a sports physical report. Registration has been extended until Wednesday, June 25. Camp registration will be held on Wednesday, June 25, from 5 p.m. - 7 p.m. at Royal Chapel CME Church off Hwy 72. Williams scores 20 in all-star basketball game By BARRY BURLESON Ashland’s Marquenton Williams put on a show during the recent Robertson’s Sportswear/NEMBCA All-Star Basketball Game at Itawamba Community College in Fulton. Williams, a 2008 graduate of Ashland High School, scored 20 points, grabbed eight rebounds, blocked two shots and dished out three assists in the team’s five-point loss. “He had a really good game,” said Jessie Terry, head coach of the Blue Devils. “He ran the floor well, passed the ball well and just played hard. He did a lot of good things.” Terry said Williams (6’1” and 170 lbs.) caught the attention of some junior colleges due to his performance in the all-star contest. He is considering walking on at Northwest Community College. |
