Fifteen-year-old in custody in shooting of Byhalia youth By SUE WATSON A suspect in the killing of a Byhalia teenager Tuesday has been taken into custody, according to sheriff Kenny Dickerson and police chief Gary Looney. Looney requested assistance from the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department in the investigation. Fifteen-year-old Remill Cortez Mason of 50 White Oak, Byhalia, is in custody at Marshall County jail and being held for the Byhalia Police Department, Dickerson said. Hill Country Picnic July 4-5 in Marshall County The third annual Mississippi Hill Country Picnic will be held July 4-5 at Potts Camp. Last June’s two-day North Mississippi Hill Country Picnic was a resounding success, drawing over 2,000 people to a rural site in Marshall County. The festival demonstrated the vitality of the contemporary blues scene in North Mississippi, with attendees from 31 states and seven different countries. The festival celebrates the legacies of departed North Mississippi blues legends including Joe Callicott, Mississippi Fred McDowell, R.L. Burnside, Junior Kimbrough and Othar Turner, and the festival will once again feature many of their children and grandchildren.
