Rev. Alvertis Warren Jr.
Rev.
Alvertis (A.V.) Warren Jr., 62, of Byhalia, died June 2, 2008 at
Baptist Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. He was the widower of Viola Whitley
Warren. He was the pastor of Free Branch MB Church; former pastor of
New Hope MB Church, Laws Hill; Mt. Lever MB Church, Como; East St.
Peter MB Church, Oxford; former pastor of Mt. Comfort CME Church and
Hamilton Chapel CME Church, both of Waterford; Miles Chapel CME Church,
Sardis; Mt. Olive CME Church, Senatobia; Adolphus Chapel CME Church and
Hebron CME Church, both of Holly Springs.
Services
were held at 11 a.m. on June 11 at Mt. Olive MB Church in Byhalia.
Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. James Taylor officiated. J.F.
Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
He
leaves two sisters, Constance Taylor of Potts Camp, Victoria Vixie
Cherry of Memphis, Tenn.; and a brother, Charlie C. Warren of Memphis,
Tenn.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Cutee W. Harvey, Regenner Westbrook.
Pallbearers
were Bro. Elton Collins, Bro. Willie Jones, Bro. Lindsey Jones, Bro.
Larry Martin, Bro. Reginald Terry and Bro. Sylvester Jones. Honorary

Corrine Walker Brown
Corrine
Walker Brown, 86, of Holly Springs, died June 3, 2008 in Grand Rapids,
Mich. She was the widow of James Brown. She was a member of Mt. Gilead
CME Church, Holly Springs, church usher, missionary, stewardess board,
Sugar Club, Home Improvement Club, Homemakers Club, and a retired
factory worker with Emerson Electric Company in Oxford.
Services
were held at 2 p.m. on June 10 at Chulahoma MB Church, Holly Springs.
Burial was in Mt. Gilead CME Church Cemetery. Rev. Charles Richmond
officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of
arrangements.
She leaves four daughters, Mary
Frances Jackson of Holly Springs, Sarrine Walker, Juanita Walker,
Shirley Jeffries, all of Grand Rapids, Mich.; a son, Benard Brown of
Aurora, Ill.; a sister, Lillie Mae Hardin of Holly Springs; a brother,
Willie Adolphus Walker of Holly Springs; and many grandchildren and
great-grandchildren.
Jacky Cleveland
Jacky Cleveland, 35, of Etta, died June 7, 2008 at his home. He was employed with Circle W. Construction.
Services
were held at 2 p.m. on June 10 at Serenity Funeral Home Chapel in New
Albany. Burial was in Salem Cemetery in Pinedale. Bro. Jerry Lowery
officiated.
He leaves his wife, Sonya Cherelle
Cleveland; four children, Isaiah Cleveland, David Weiss, Ashley Weiss,
all of Etta, Stevie Stokes of Booneville; his mother, Devona Self of
Baldwyn; a brother, James Self of Lee County; and two sisters, Christy
Buchanan of Fulton, Dewona McMillen of New Albany.
Norris Gibson Rikard Jr.
Norris Gibson Rikard Jr., 59, of Byhalia, died June 5, 2008 in Byhalia. He was a carpenter.
Services
were held at 12 noon on June 10 at Rodgers Funeral Home Chapel in
Coldwater. Burial was in Smith Rhodes Cemetery in Munford, Tenn.
He
leaves four daughters, Twila Johnson of Independence, Tammy Gosa, Trina
Mensi, both of Olive Branch, Tara Rikard of Byhalia; a son Norris
Rikard III of Olive Branch; two sisters, Janice Ester of Southaven,
Sheree Coats of Arlington, Tenn.; and 14 grandchildren.
Claudia Stockton Sexton

Stockton Sexton, 77, of Lamar, died June 6, 2008 at Baptist Hospital in
Memphis, Tenn. She was the widow of R.L. Sexton and a Presbyterian.
Services
were held at 2 p.m. on June 8 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Don
Wilson and Jim Zilinsky officiated. Burial was in Hopewell Community
Cemetery.
She leaves five sons, Robert Sexton
of Potts Camp, Allen Sexton, Gary Sexton, Dale Sexton, all of Holly
Springs, Glen Sexton of Lamar; four daughters, Frances King of Auburn,
Ga., Dianne Seward of Waverly, Va., Janice Sexton of Byhalia, Teresa
Zilinsky of Cordova, Tenn.; four sisters, Eula Umberger of Tupelo,
Geraldine Foster, Amy Boback, both of Batesville, Jane Snipes of Olive
Branch; 22 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Lawrence Cain Massengill
Lawrence Cain Massengill, 22, of Hickory Flat, died June 4, 2008 at his home.
Services
were held at 10 a.m. on June 6 at Faith Baptist Church, where he was a
member. Burial was in McKay Cemetery. Holly Springs Funeral Home was in
charge of arrangements.
He leaves his parents,
Mark and Donna Massengill of Hickory Flat; his grandmothers, Pauline
Colston, Jewel Massengill of Ripley; three brothers, Heath Massengill,
Chase Massengill, both of Hickory Flat, Jason Massengill of Ripley; and
other family.

Etta McDonald, 85, of Ashland, died June 3, 2008 at Tippah Co.
Hospital. She was a member of Liberty United Methodist Church.

Burial was in Hopewell Cemetery in Ashland. Bro. William Kemp
officiated.
She leaves her husband, Hayden
McDonald; a son, Charles McDonald of Ashland; a daughter, Twala Coomer
of Blue Mountain; two brothers, Bobby Brown of Peoria, Ill., Robert
Brown Jr. of Walnut; two sisters, Willie Mae Ray of Ashland, Moudie
Bell Britt of Canaan; four grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and
four great-great-grandchildren.
Joseph McMullen

(Joe) McMullen, 41, of Waterford, died June 4, 2008 at his home. He was
a field service technician with Thompson Machinery.

Burial was in Liberty Methodist Cemetery in Ashland. Bro. Jim Buchanan
and Bro. Tony Roberts officiated.
He leaves his
wife, Shannon McMullen; his mother, Patty Sue McMullen of Holly
Springs; a son, Justin Allen McMullen of Holly Springs; three brothers,
Arnie McMullen, Tommy McMullen, both of Ashland, Mark McMullen of Heber
Springs, Ark.; and two sisters, Anne McMullen Terry of Ft. Worth, Tx.,
Cheryl McMullen Hargis of Southaven.
He was preceded in death by his father, Arnold (Cowboy) McMullen.

Baptist in Collierville. She was the widow of James K. Parmenter and a
member of Apostolic Church of Christ.

were held at 10 a.m. on June 9 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel.
Burial was in Johnson Cemetery in Wynne, Ark. Bro. Garland Loveless
officiated.
She leaves a daughter, Shirley Reynolds of Byhalia; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Milton Pegues
Milton
Pegues, 79, of Holly Springs, died May 30, 2008 at Alliance HealthCare
System. He was a member of Calvin Chapel United Methodist Church,
former trustee, Cedar Grove Lodge Court #39 and retired brick burner
with Holly Springs Brick & Tile.
Services
were held at 12 noon on June 7 at Anderson Chapel CME Church. Burial
was in Adolphus Chapel CME Church Cemetery. Rev. Tony Wilkins
officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of
arrangements.
He leaves his wife, Bessie Mae

Yorksville, N.Y., Velma Aldridge of Dixon, Ill., Temaiko Odum,
Elizabeth Wilkins, both of Holly Springs; seven sons, Elihue Pegues,
Tracy Pegues, both of Aurora, Ill., Leon Pegues of Chicago, Ill., Odell
Pegues of Rockford, Ill., Douglas Pegues, Clayton Campbell Jr., both of
Holly Springs, Patrick Campbell of Olive Branch; two sisters, Fannie
Mae Barksdale of Holly Springs, Lavora Jeffries of Aurora, Ill.; a
brother, Autry Pegues of Detroit, Mich.; 38 grandchildren, 51
great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
