Ophelia Wilkins Coleman
Ophelia Wilkins Coleman, 92, of Holly Springs, died May 19, 2008 at Alliance HealthCare System. She was the widow of Johnny Houston Coleman. She was a former church usher.
Services were held at 2:30 p.m. on May 25 at Yarbrough Chapel CME Church, where she was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Joe T. Lester officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
She leaves a daughter, Ceola Crawford of Holly Springs; a sister, Louvenia Graham of Memphis, Tenn.; a brother, Edward Martin of Memphis, Tenn.; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Oscar Holloway, Jarvis Wilson, Hayes Walton Jr., Travis Coleman, Richard Luellen and Tavis Sims. Honorary pallbearers were David Crawford and Enoch Lester.
Sammie Lee Falkner
Sammie Lee Falkner, 66, of Holly Springs, died May 17, 2008 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. He was a retired employee of Memphis Hardwood Flooring Company in Potts Camp.
Services were held at 1 p.m. on May 21 at Walton Chapel CME Church of Waterford, where he was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Eric Shields officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
He leaves his wife, Mary J. Hollowell Falkner; a son, Charles Edward Falkner of Holly Springs; nine sisters, Ethel Mae McNeil, Mary Armstrong, both of Tupelo, Mae Willie King of Detroit, Mich., Nora Sanderson, Martha Brookins, Gladys King, Shirley Falkner, Patricia Warren, Evelyn Jean Turnage, all of Holly Springs; a brother, Tommy Falkner of Holly Springs; and a special niece, DeJeanette Taylor of Holly Springs.
Pallbearers were James (Pete) McNeil, Richard Hardin, Tony Taylor, James Willie Smith, Sonny Manning and Lorenzo Hall. Honorary pallbearers were Charles Falkner, Tommy Falkner Jr., Mitchell Poe, Ernest Sanderson Jr. Sylvester Hollowell and Tyrone Smith.
Gracie Jackson, 63, of Ashland, died May 17, 2008 at The Med Trauma Center in Memphis, Tenn. She joined Sandhill Baptist Church. She attended Salem High School and later Harold Washington College in Chicago, Ill., where she lived for 34 years before returning to Ashland.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on May 24 at St. James Church of God in Christ in Ripley. Burial was in St. Luke Church of God in Christ Cemetery in Ashland. Superintendent Bernell Hoyle officiated. N.L. Jones and Son Funeral Directors - Ashland Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
She leaves her husband, Henry T. Jackson Sr.; two daughters, Keshia K. Jackson, Royshetta C. Leatherwood, both of Chicago, Ill.; three sons, Dewayne A. Jackson of Memphis, Tenn., Gregory L. Jackson and Henry T. Jackson Jr., both of Ashland; her mother Sallie Kimbrough; seven foster children, Sarah Porter, Christopher Frazier, Maurice Williams, Patrick Williams, Tanara Lee, Neal Portis, Roy Turner, all of Chicago, Ill.; six brothers, two sisters, James Grady, Farrar, Clarence, David Morris, Alfred, Ben Franklin, Murthie Daughty, Lovie Cole; 27 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Earnest Kimbrough.
Joy Jeanette Priest
Joy Jeanette Priest, 78, of Ashland, died May 22, 2008 at Alliance HealthCare System. She was a Protestant.
Memorial services were held at 2 p.m. on May 24 at her home. Holly Springs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
She leaves her husband, Junior A. Priest; a son, Gary Priest of Jasper, Ga.; two daughters, Gayle Grieser of Mosinee, Wisc., Denise Priest of Ashland; nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Lola Frances Robinson Schooley
Lola Frances Robinson Schooley, 84, of Red Banks, died May 21, 2008.
Memorial services were held between 5 and 8 p.m. on May 24 at her daughter’s home. Holly Springs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
She leaves her husband, Fred Schooley; two daughters, Sonnia Gibson, Debbi Reeves; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her son, Phillip; brothers, Coy and Maurice; sisters, Annie, Jessie, Bess, Gin, and Peggy.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
