• Patriots play Central Private this week for Class AA crown By BARRY BURLESON Editor Marshall Academy goes for its first ever state baseball championship this week. “This
is an awesome feeling,” head coach Jimmy Hicks told his team after
Saturday’s dramatic 4-3 win over Kirk Academy for the North State
crown. “Not many people get the opportunity to play for a state

Holly Springs was well represented
Saturday at the State Track Meet in Pearl. From left are participants
Darryl Kinkle, Datron Johnson, Kiera Mayfield, Clifford Brown and
Brandon Thomas. Mayfield placed second in the 100 meter (12.62), fourth
in the 200 meter (26.86) and fourth in the 400 meter (1:02.18). Placing
third in the state in the 4x100 meter relay were Kinkle, Johnson, Brown
and Thomas (43.01). Thomas also placed seventh in the triple jump
(41-11). “I’m real proud of their effort,” said coach Clifford Brown.
“They did a fantastic job. It was another successful track season.” |
Spring football wraps up; Hawks going to Horn Lake By BARRY BURLESON Editor Clifford Brown is the only football coach in the county who will get a look at his team in a spring game. The
Holly Springs High School Hawks visit Horn Lake this Friday, May 16. A
ninth grade game at approximately 4:45 p.m. will be followed by junior
varsity and varsity contests. Full Story

After
a hard-played, two-and-one-half-hour championship game between Byhalia
and Holly Springs Osteen, the 10-year-old Byhalia softball team,
coached by Matt and Ellen Gehrke, came out victorious, taking first
place in the Marshall County Preseason Tournament. Both teams played
excellent games throughout the tournament and should be equally proud.
