The
first round in the best of seven in the NBA was concluded late Friday
for all of the teams except two. The team which Doc Rivers has
rejuvenated was forced to a seventh and final game in their series with
the lowly but undaunted Atlanta Hawks. Even this writer never gave the
Hawks a chance of going the distance with Boston. Full Story

MA Patriots finish in top five at state meet By BARRY BURLESON Editor The
Marshall Academy relay team had the highest finish in last week’s state
track meet at Mississippi College in Clinton – winning second in two
events. Tyler Sanders, Wesley Harris, Tyler
Childers and Hank Owens placed second in the state in the 800 meter
relay (1:33.74) and the 400 meter relay (44.47). John Tomlinson took fifth in the 110 meter high hurdles (18.44). Wesley Harris finished fourth in the 100 meter dash and Tyler Childers fifth in the same event. Harris also took fifth in the 200 meter dash. In field events, Brent Adams placed third in the high jump, fifth in the long jump and fifth in the triple jump.
Lady Lions, Lions named to all-star teams Four H.W. Byers basketball players have been selected to play in area all-star games. Justin
Owens and Marvin Rayford Jr., who play for coach Sylvester Kilgore’s
Lions, and Marian Parker and Simone Ryan, who play for coach Jason
Thompson’s Lady Lions, will have the opportunity to shine in the
Northeast Mississippi All-Star contests. The games are set for Saturday, June 7, at Itawamba Community College in Fulton.

The
M-Club Chapter of the Ole Miss Alumni Association, along with various
football support groups, honored several members of the 2007 and 2008
Rebel squads recently during Red-Blue activities. Quarterback Seth
Adams (right) of Holly Springs received the Clower-Walters Scholarship
for the 2007 season. The Clower-Walters Scholarship, going to an
outstanding senior football player, was established in 1974 by the late
humorist Jerry Clower to honor the late Carl Walters, a longtime
Mississippi sportswriter who covered Ole Miss football. |
