Wesley Lynn Boyce, 18, of Coldwater, died May 1, 2008 at his home. He was a Baptist.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on May 6 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Bethany Baptist Cemetery in Potts Camp. Holly Springs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
He leaves a brother, Robert Boyce of Coldwater; and four sisters, Billie Gail Cooper, Leslie Boyce, Regina Boyce, Mary Boyce, all of Dallas, Tx.
Perlia Mae Johnson Burton
Perlia Mae Johnson Burton, 58, of Holly Springs, died April 25, 2008 at her home. She was disabled and a factory worker with Wurlitzer, Sunbeam, Mulay Plastics in Holly Springs and Bodine Company of Collierville, Tenn.
Services were held at 1 p.m. on April 30 at Pleasant Grove MB Church in Red Banks, where she was a member. Burial was in Cottrell Memorial Garden. Rev. S.A. Phillips officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
She leaves her husband, Douglas Burton Jr.; a daughter, Pamela Rena Malone Sanders of Holly Springs; two sons, Terence Edward Malone, Dwayne Antwan Burton, both of Holly Springs; two sisters, Nola B. Hall of Red Banks, Norma Jean Johnson of Memphis, Tenn.; a brother, Cleveland Johnson of Holly Springs; and six grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Dennis Moore, Harvey Payne, Fred Bell, Chris Stewart, Antonio Wells, Dean Barksdale and Edwin Burton. Honorary pallbearers were her nephews.
Mary Alice Campbell
Mary Alice Campbell, 83, of Holly Springs, died May 3, 2008 at her home. She was the widow of Ashby N. Campbell. She was a member of Friendship Baptist Church and a former employee of Wurlitzer.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on May 6 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Rice Chapel Cemetery. Bro. Frank Feathers and Bro. Michael Baker officiated.
She leaves five sons, Ashby Campbell Jr., of Walls, Dennis Campbell of Ashland, Gary Campbell of Holly Springs, Rueben Campbell of Ashland, Leslie Bruce Campbell of Holly Springs; a daughter, Marilyn Campbell of Holly Springs; two brothers, Duane Rhea of Russellville, Ala., Marvin Rhea of Memphis, Tenn.; four sisters, Margie Pannell of Memphis, Tenn., Patsy Bailey of Byhalia, Janie Alexander of Southaven, Stella Ventrini of Memphis, Tenn.; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by infant twins.
Pallbearers were Joe Byrd, Jeff Rhea, Wendel Rhea, Wayne Wilson, Rodney Rhea and Donnie Potts. Honorary pallbearers were Jackie Holmes, Larry Rhea, Ronnie Bolden, Ricky Bailey, Mike Ventrini, Jonathan Vaughn, John Griffin and Randy McClatchy.
Eunice Florine Carpenter Hogan
Eunice Florine (Bene) Carpenter Hogan, 98, of Slayden, died May 5, 2008 at Trinity Missions Health and Rehab. She was the widow of James Alonzo (Lonnie) Hogan. She was a lifelong member and oldest member of Slayden Baptist Church and a piano teacher for more than 50 years.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on May 8 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Slayden Cemetery.
She leaves three daughters, Katie Tapp of Lamar, Nancy Davis of Tupelo, Dale Galbreath of Mt. Pleasant; a brother, Howard Carpenter of Slayden; a sister, Nancy Brewer of Arlington, Tx.; seven grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a grandson, Julian Hogan Tapp.
Edward Ingram, 65, of Aurora, Ill., formerly of Byhalia, died April 25, 2008 at Provena Mercy Center in Aurora. He was a retired welder of 30 years from Caterpillar of Aurora.
Services were held at 1 p.m. on May 3 at Mt. Sinai MB Church. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. Chris Williams officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
He leaves his wife, Mae R. Ingram; six daughters, Stephanie Henderson Cary of North Carolina, Felicia Cunningham of Yorkville, Ill., Linda Walker of Mississippi, Vickie Taylor of Memphis, Tenn., Sally of Aurora, Ill., Nedra of Chicago, Ill.; three sons, Anthony V. Ingram of Japan, Christopher Turnage of Aurora, Ill., Kenneth LeSure of Mississippi; a sister, Gazella Matthews of Byhalia; a brother, Buford Ingram of Byhalia; many grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Pallbearers were Tony Curtis Ingram, Samuel Ingram, Jimmie Dale Ingram, Alvin Matthews, Ontrayl Matthews and Robert Lee Matthews. Honorary pallbearers were sons-in-law Joseph Matthews, Johnson Matthews Jr.; nephews; grandsons Percy Echols and Roosevelt Echols.
Eunice (June Bug) Lipford, 51, of Blue Mountain, died May 3, 2008 at his home. He was a former maintenance worker for Blue Mountain College.
Services were held at 12 noon on May 7 at Serenity Funeral Chapel in New Albany. Burial was in Union Hill Cemetery. Eulogists Rev. Caleb Williams and Rev. Patrick Washington officiated. He leaves a daughter, Connie Rutherford of Blue Mountain; a son, Kenny Lipford of New Albany; two brothers, Richard (V8) Harris of New Albany, Joe Eddie Harris of Ashland; three sisters, Lillie Sanders of Blue Mountain, Lucille Mullins of New Albany, Anita Rutherford of Milwaukee; and four grandchildren.
Gertrude McCrae, 86, of Ripley, Tenn., formerly of Byhalia, died April 29, 2008 at Baptist Hospital - Lauderdale.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on May 3 at St. Matthews MB Church in Byhalia. Burial was in the church cemetery. Serenity Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
She leaves a special cousin, Beatrice Sessom; and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Bobby Lee Tennial and Samuel McCrae.
Emily Pryor Roberson
Emily Pryor Roberson, 83, of Memphis, Tenn., formerly of Holly Springs, died April 26, 2008 at Methodist Hospital South in Memphis. She was the widow of Hugh Roberson. She was a retired laborer with Decor Noel in Memphis.
Services were held at 12 noon on May 3 at Mt. Peel MB Church in Memphis, where she was a member. Burial was in the church cemetery. Rev. R.A. Cox officiated. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
She leaves six daughters, Parthenia Thompson of Aurora, Ill., Juanita Addison, Rev. Elaine Westbrook, Shelia Roberson, Hattie Roberson, Karen Smith, all of Memphis, Tenn.; five sons, Alonzo (Ricky) Roberson of Alexandria, Va., Oscar Roberson of Memphis, Calvin Roberson of Minneapolis, Minn., James Roberson, Gerald Roberson, both of Memphis, Tenn.; three sisters, Mandie Wilson, Bettie Thompson, both of Waterford, Nancy Hickan of Des Moines, Iowa; 37 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and many great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Alonzo Roberson, Oscar L. Roberson, Gerald D. Roberson, James E. Roberson, Calvin L. Roberson and Allarick D. Roberson. Honorary pallbearers were the Mt. Peel Official Board.
Richard Adams Smith
Richard Adams Smith, 66, of Oxford, died Tuesday, May 6, 2008 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford. He served in the United States Air Force, was a graduate of Mississippi State University and was retired from the Mississippi Department of Transportation where he served as an agronomist for 32 years.
He was preceded in death by his father, Richard Comodore Smith and mother, Pearl Norfleet Smith of Tyro. He leaves his wife, Linda Moore Eubank Smith; his sons, Kent Elliot Smith and his wife Amanda Whaley Smith of Holly Springs, Stephen Richard Smith of Meadville; his daughters, Leah Eubank Dossett of Hermosa Beach, Calif. and Lisa Eubank Whalen and her husband, Rich Whalen of Poughkeepsie, NY; three grandchildren, Jackson Whaley Smith, Zoe Covington Whalen and Luke Whitman Whalen. He also leaves three sisters, Ann Smith Welch of Long Beach, California, Faye Smith St. John Woods of Byhalia, and Bonnie Smith Schwartz of Germantown, Tenn.
Wyndell D. Vann
Wyndell D. Vann, 71, of Memphis, Tenn., died May 2, 2008 at St. Francis Hospital. He was a retired air cargo employee with Delta Airlines and a U.S. Air Force veteran.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on May 4 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Carey Chapel Cemetery. Bro. Anthony Lynch officiated.
He leaves a son, Alan Vann of Byhalia; a brother, Reid Vann of St. Louis, Mo.; and a grandchild, Blake Vann.
Pallbearers were Bill Graham, Eric Lynch, Chase Murphy, Terry Edge Jr. and Daniel Devore.
Martha W. Watson
Martha W. Watson, 82, of Byhalia, died April 28, 2008 at Methodist University Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. She was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church.
Services were held at 11 a.m. on May 1 at Holly Springs Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Clear Creek Cemetery.
She leaves her husband, J.C. Watson; two brothers, Calvin Bolden of Russellville, Ala., Robert Bolden of Tuscumbia, Ala.; two sisters, Jane Floyd of Booneville, Betty Dees of Byhalia; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Robert Davis.
Howard Lee White
Howard Lee White, 78, of Byhalia, died May 4, 2008 at Memphis Jewish Home in Memphis, Tenn. He was a retired landscaper.
Services were held at 2 p.m. on May 7 at Dickins Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Chapel Hill Cemetery in Pope.
He leaves his wife, Emelder O. Catlett White; three sons, David Hartley of Hemstead, Tx., Howard Wayne White of Byhalia, Jerry Walker of Cleveland; two sisters, Sarah Pauline Wimberly of Marks, Mittylene Goodwin of Holiday, Tenn.; and six grandchildren.
