Holly High athletes going to state

Five Holly High athletes will compete in the Class 3A state track championships this Saturday at Pearl High School.

Kiera Mayfield qualified for state in three events, winning north half crowns in two of those.

Mayfield won first in the north in the 100 meter (12.64) and in the 400 meter (1:01). She also finished third in the 200 meter (26.68).

The boys 4x100 meter relay team also took the north championship – Datron Johnson, Darryl Kinkle, Clifford Brown and Brandon Thomas – with a time of 43.02.

Thomas also qualified for state in the triple jump. He finished fourth in the north with a distance of 41-2.

The Holly High Hawks finished runner-up in the recent regional track meet. They trailed host Charleston 92 to 88 in the final standings.

100 meter dash - fourth, Clifford Brown, 10.94; eighth, Emanuel Coleman, 11.47.
200 meter dash - fifth, Clifford Brown, 22.96; sixth, Datron Johnson, 23.72.
400 meter dash - fourth, Darryl Kinkle, 52.41; sixth, Demetri Oliver, 55.48.
800 meter run - fifth, Naytwon Holloway, 2:21.
1600 meter run - first, Naytwon Holloway, 5:25; fourth, Dean Bridgeforth, 5:30.60.
3200 meter run - first, Naytwon Holloway, 11:20; second, Dean Bridgeforth, 11:21.
110 meter hurdles - second, Emanuel Coleman, 15.82.
300 meter hurdles - fifth, Emanuel Coleman, 43.93.
4x100 meter relay - third, Datron Johnson, Clifford Brown, Darryl Kinkle, Brandon Thomas, 44.24.
4x200 meter relay - fifth, Datron Johnson, Clifford Brown, Darryl Kinkle, Brandon Thomas, 1:39.45.
4x400 meter relay - fifth, Darryl Kinkle, William Jones, Brandon Thomas, Demetri Oliver, 3:44.
High jump - third, Dean Bridgeforth, 5-04.50.
Triple jump - third, Brandon Thomas, 39-01.
Shot put - fourth, Bobby Barksdale, 39-09; fifth, Sam Jones, 39-08.
Discus - fifth, Bobby Barksdale, 102-02.50; sixth, Jermille Burke, 98-02.
Girls 100 meter dash - first, Kiera Mayfield, 12.46.
Girls 200 meter dash - first, Kiera Mayfield, 26.35.
Girls 400 meter dash - first, Kiera Mayfield, 1:00.77.
Girls 4x100 meter relay - sixth, Kiera Mayfield, China Pool, Tameka Malone, Cordelia Smith, 57.25.
