Congressional runoff next Tuesday
By BARRY BURLESON
It’s back to the polls next week to decide who will serve as U.S. representative through the end of the year.
The special election runoff Tuesday, May 13, is to choose an interim replacement for Roger Wicker in the U.S. House of Representatives, First Congressional District. Wicker was appointed to the U.S. Senate in December of last year.
The candidates are Travis Childers of Booneville and Greg Davis of Southaven.
The election covers 462 precincts across 24 counties, including Marshall.
Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. next Tuesday.
Absentee voting for the special election runoff is now available in the Marshall County circuit clerk’s office, which is open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The clerk’s office will also be open Saturday, May 10, from 8 a.m. to 12 noon, the deadline for absentee voting.
Childers and Davis will meet again in the November 4 general election, with the winner filling the U.S. House of Representatives seat formerly held by Wicker. It will be a two-year term, starting in 2009.
