Mississippi Springfest opening May 7 This
year’s 17th annual Mississippi Springfest will be held Wednesday, May 7
through Saturday, May 10 in Ashland at the intersection of Highways 4
and 5. There will be free parking and free admission. The festival will
feature arts and crafts on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Full Story
Holly Springs police make arrests The Holly Springs Police Department reported three arrests last week. Chief
Robert Pearson said Brandi LaSha Holland, 19, of Verona, was arrested
April 22 and charged with possession of a controlled substance within a
correctional facility. Renay Sue Rayford, 42, of
Holly Springs, was arrested April 23, the chief said, on charges of
domestic violence aggravated assault. R.C. Blake, aka Mickey Blake, was arrested April 24 on outstanding warrants of grand larceny, according to Pearson. Holly
Springs officers responded to a burglary in the 100 block of North
Walthall on Friday, April 25. The homeowner stated she returned home
and discovered someone had entered the residence through the bedroom
window. Taken was $3 worth of change from a coffee cup. Officers
responded to the following activities last week – driving while license
suspended, five; no driver’s license/expired driver’s license, one; no
proof of insurance, seven; expired tag/no tag, one; reckless driving,
one; disregard for traffic device, three; violation of city dog
ordinance, two; simple assault/domestic violence, three; making a
threat, one. Anyone with information regarding
any crime committed in the Holly Springs/Marshall County area, please

enforcement officers do not need your name, just your information. The
caller may be entitled to a reward of up to $1,000.
Chamber of Commerce shows off Holly Springs businesses The
Holly Springs Chamber of Commerce’s Business Bonanza April 18-20 was a
great opportunity to show pride in our local businesses. Our merchants
contributed forty items totaling a value of nearly $3,000 for the
raffle. The Rebel 95.3 FM broadcast a live
remote and featured a three-minute installment by Amy Heaton praising
those who contributed items. The three-day Business Bonanza gave the
chamber a welcome opportunity to display the unique and varied products
of Holly Springs’ businesses to the estimated 1,100 tourists who
visited our city during that time, as well as our own citizens.

Byhalia officers respond to accidents, burglaries The Byhalia Police Department responded to 42 calls during the past week. Chief
Gary Looney released the following report – six alarm calls, two motor
vehicle accidents, two burglaries, three disturbances, five escorts,
one juvenile-related call, eight assists, two medical assistance calls,
one fire and 12 miscellaneous calls. Byhalia police also made five arrests on the following charges: - driving while license suspended.
