Byers teams take second

Both the H.W. Byers Lions and Lady Lions finished second in the District 1-2A Track Meet April 16 at Tupelo.

The Byers boys earned 85 points, trailing champion Water Valley with 200. Mantachie took third with 68.

The Byers girls trailed first-place Water Valley by just 17 points – 140 to 123. Mantachie placed third with 116 points.

Lions

Long jump - first, Fred Jones, 22-03; second, T.W. Bryson, 19-01.50.
200m dash - third, Fred Jones, 24.07.
800m run - first, Marvin Rayford, 2:21; second, T.W. Bryson, 2:27.
300m hurdles - second, Marcus Rayford, 48.72; seventh, Cordarious Sanders, 1:01.70.
400m dash - fourth, T.W. Bryson, 57.50.
100m dash - first, Fred Jones, 11.68.
3200m run - second, Carlos Martin, 13:51; fourth, Darion Cunningham, 14:58.

Lady Lions

High jump - third, Kourtney Coleman, 4-00.
Discus throw - fourth, Kenyatta Gulledge, 69-04; seventh, Cerria Seldon, 51-09.
4x400m relay - second, Diona Walker, Jessica Euell, Kyra Williams, Teresha Woods, 5:03.80.
200m dash - second, Amanda Jones, 29.00; fourth, Rachel Jones, 30.00.
800m run - third, Cerria Seldon, 3:10; fifth, Raven Gant, 3:13.
300m hurdles - third, Octavia Jones, 59.60; fourth, Wanda Hassell, 1:07.12.
400m dash - third, Octavia Jones, 1:12.00; fourth, Raven Gant, 1:17.00.
4x100m relay - first, Amanda Jones, Diona Walker, Jessica Euell, Kenyatta Gulledge, 53.90.
1600m run - second, Cerria Seldon, 7:29; fifth, Kourtney Coleman, 7:46.
4x200m relay - third, Diona Walker, Jessica Euell, Kenyatta Gulledge, Kyra Williams, 1:58.
100m dash - third, Amanda Jones, 13.99; fifth, Rachel Jones, 14.25.
3200m run - first, Kourtney Coleman, 15:54.45.

The regional meet was set for this past Saturday in Tupelo, and North Half is Saturday, May 3, also in Tupelo. The state meet is May 9-10 at Pearl.
