I didn’t know coaching 5- and 6-year-old girls could be so much fun.
Last week The South Reporter Sluggers began their softball season (not T-ball but coach-pitch softball) in the Marshall County Dizzy Dean Pre-Season Tournament at Byhalia.
I actually got railroaded into coaching the team – thanks to county league coordinator Janice Wagg. But she’s still my friend, and thanks to her, I’m having a blast.
The score isn’t important in this league. Getting them to run around the bases is a major accomplishment. And playing in the dirt while they’re in the field is OK, too.
When I was publisher of the weekly newspaper in Red Bay, Ala., a Dixie Youth league coordinator gave me an article entitled, “An Open Letter to Dixie Youth Parents.” The words can apply to most any youth league.
Patents, cut this out, and keep it on the refrigerator. Let’s have a fun season.
